Weekend Reader Finds: February 24, 2014

Weekend Finds 2-24-2014

This weekend there seemed to be an emphasis on sports cars, particularly British Roadsters. There was at least one of the three big British marques submitted. Also in attendance are a Japanese sports car, the Celica GT, and an American drop top sports car, the Corvair. For those looking for something other than a sports car, there is a collection of Model A projects, a Ford Thunderbird, and an International Metro. It’s going to be tough to pick our favorite, but given the quirkiness of the International, we are leaning towards it as a very unique project. Be sure to take a closer look at these finds and the rest of the reader finds below. Our thanks to everyone that sent in finds this weekend!

It seems that the Model A Projects either turned out to be a scam or the seller has already sold all the cars, as the listing as been removed by the seller. Sorry about that one guys!

Well, since I can’t get hold of those sweet sweet “A”s, I’d settle for taking that nice Corvair ragtop and making the rounds of all the car shows this summer… ^_^

My degree isn’t in marketing, but still I’d think it would be a good idea to shop-vac up the rodent seeds and droppings in that Camaro before photographing the floor pans. It almost seemed like the guy was taking pictures of the seeds instead of the floor pans. Oy…

Two bumper stickers that should be on that Arrow dually….1) “If you see this Arrow a-rockin’, don’t come a-knockin'”, and 2) “Gas, grass, or ass…nobody rides for free”. Classic.

I’m liking that Renault. I always fantasize about an engine swap with a Corvair or something more powerful than the original motor. Maybe a wider track and it would be a bullet. And probably a sleeper.

Having owned several Corvairs that one brings back memories. The 65 and later ones were better but I’d take this one right now -too bad – I’m already renting extra garage space just to keep Haggarty happy..

I like a few cars on that list (The TR-6 and Corvair being near the top), but the one I would want is the Toyota Celica GT. My preference would be the coupe (the hatchback is an astonishing 500 lbs heavier!) but this car is nice enough that I wouldn’t complain. Of course, being me, it would get an engine swap. I would use the 4A-GE 20V out of a Japanese AE-92 or Corolla (FWD) mated to the T-50 5 speed manual out of a AE-86 (RWD) Corolla GT-S. I would also switch to a coil on plug ignition to move the ignition off the now back of the head and run the stock ITB system off a stand alone EMS. This would let me have the look of a multi-carb setup but with the hassle-free reliability and ease of repair you can only get with EFI. As to the body, it would likely be painted some sort of bright 1970’s color like lime green and fitted with a set of 15 in Panasports or Watanabes. I also have to think there is some sort of RWD Toyota that could contribute larger 4 wheel discs ( I am not a Toyotaku so I am not 100% certain) , such as maybe the AE-86 or a later Celica Supra.
