Well-Preserved: 1972 Ford Mustang

As the Mustang aged, competitors circled and entered the corral. So to be a little more creative and go after some lost sales, the Mustang expanded with performance and luxury models. Here is a 1972 Ford Mustang 2-door hardtop for sale here on eBay in Hammond, Louisiana. But is it the luxury model?

The seller has two references in the ad that it is a Grandé which was introduced in 1969 as the luxury Mustang. Here are some of the reasons I have my doubts. The letter above from Ford Motor Company only describes it as a 2-door hardtop and the Grandé was a separate model, not an option. Another reason is the seller shows the original wheel covers that came with the car. They are correct for the 2-door hardtop but not the Grandé.

Even though this is a nice flawless original interior in the ginger color, it is not the correct interior for the Grandé either. The premium model’s interior was in a different pattern furnished with Lambeth cloth and would have a Grandé emblem above the radio. This car has a Mustang emblem above the radio.

Nonetheless, it is a well preserved original 1972 Mustang in its Bright Yellow Gold Metallic paint with a white vinyl top in what appears to be excellent condition. There seem to be no issues with the paint or any rust and all trim is there. This car has apparently been garaged most of its life. All original documentation is included as well.

The 302 V-8 2 barrel engine has driven this car only 40,000 miles since 1972. The car has air conditioning but it is not working. This is really the only flaw the car seems to have. Even if this is not the premium Grandé model, it is in premium condition. It is offered at a Buy it Now price of $15,800. Any takers?

From the few pics it looks like a great car but why not a few underside photos. Also flip that trunk mat back to see the pan. Always like the 1972.

Came close to buying a ‘real’ Grande years ago with a 351. white with blue vinyl roof and interior. Priced reasonably, but Just Couldn’t Pull The Trigger.

Had a ’70 Grande. Nice car that used half as much gas as my ’51 Buick Super.

Why on earth would you put ‘69 Boss 302 stripes on a ‘70 Grande?

I was ready to chime in with obvious differences that distinguish the Grande from the 2 door coupe, but as I read on, you listed them all! All the way down to the type of material on the seats! They also came with a 351 Cleveland. Here is my Grande that my father bought in 1976.

I’d prefer the Lime green with the roller skate stripe, from the other day, to this one.

Where is the obligatory picture of the speedometer to demonstrate proof of mileage?

That’s an aggressive price for a nice example of the blandest pre-1974 Mustang made. If the condition is accurately described probably it’s value is closer to $10,000 than $15,000.

Better than Stripey mustang and 10,000 is a better price.

The interior is literally similar to my 70 Mustang Coupe

My buddy bought a ’72 Mustang Grandé in high school. Then we found papers under the front seat indicating it had belonged to someone named Dagney Quandee. We had a lot of fun telling him he was driving the ‘Dagney Quandee Grondee’.
