What’s Happening In This Barn? 1969 Mustang SportRoof

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

I really would love to know what exactly is happening in this barn! Not only do you see the ’69 Mustang that’s for sale, but what appears to be a ’65 Mustang Coupe and a ’63 Split Window Corvette. They all look to be projects, but there’s no word on what their statuses are. The seller sold a split window not that long ago, but this one appears to be a different one. Getting to the Mustang that’s for sale, it’s a base level car, but in the SportRoof body (aka Fastback). It’s list here on eBay in Cape Coral, Florida, so assume there are serious rust issues, with an asking price of $6,500.

The seller doesn’t offer a ton of information about this car, but they do claim that it runs and drives. It’s a 200 cui inline six engine and is said to run great. The only major issue the seller notes is that the power steering belt if off, so assume it is going to need the power steering system fully rebuilt.

This Mustang is going to be a huge project, but this body style is desirable. I do love the seller’s recommendation that you be looking for a rusty project if you are going to be buying this one. While it drives, you will want to fix the rust issues before putting any mileage on it.

Here’s a closer look at the Corvette and there are some serious questions about what’s happening with it. It looks like it might not be a real split window, but rather a later coupe with the split window added in. It would take a closer look to know for sure, but perhaps if you buy the Mustang they will let you in to look at the Corvette!

    The other Mustang is a ’66, not a ’65.

It looks to have sold, but it also “sold” on May 27th, so we may see it again. Someone might have taken a chance on it as a parts car because of the low entry price, it looks complete and piecing together a gutted Mach 1 or Boss will nickel and dime a buyer to death.

In April the seller had a 1963 split window listed that sold for $18,500, the description said it had previous major body damage and might have been a roll over. That may have been the same car seen in the shop, even though the Corvette in that ad wasn’t shown entirely in white.

To me the Corvette looks like a fiberglass recreation. Not a original 1963. My friend has a real one and it looks different for whatever reason.

Is it just me, or does the split window post look wider than a original? You may be right about it being a recreation.

Wow that 69 doesn’t have much floor left, he must have drug it out of the Atlantic. It will be one costly base Mustang restoration or even expensive restomod. All parts are available aftermarket but bodywork and just a 6 banger automatic wouldn’t be worth the time and $$$. $1,000 to $1,500 tops IMHO.

Just the fold down seats with brackets and fiberglass panels are worth $1500

The ebay link took me to a 69 pony convert ad, so looks to be gone.

At first I was going to guess chop shop, but no. Not unless they’re the worst car thieves ever.

I really don’t like how ebay takes you to a different auction when the one you want to see has ended!

RE: Corvette, heard from friend who worked in the body shop of Malcolm Konner Chevrolet that back in the day customers with ’63 coupes saw the ’64 and liked the back window so much they would have their post removed. I wonder how many of those people are still alive to see the error of their ways?

The ’69 I found in a back yard and purchased from the original owners (pictured when picking the car up). Base model 302cid 2-barrel, AT, low back buckets, but bone stock and one repaint in 1983.
