What’s in Jim C’s Barn?

mustang-garage

From Jim C – Love your site and just wanted to share my barn. It is actually a barn that I built in an equestrian community that has been converted into a shop. My first car was a ’65 Mustang coupe that I bought for $500 and pushed home at 15 years of age from a neighbor a couple doors down from where I lived, that was in ’79. In short order I worked my way up to a ’68 California Special that I built and then to the pinnacle of Mustangs, a ’67 Shelby GT500. Can you figure out which of these is a clone?

I bought that Shelby locally in Downey, California without a engine and trans.  It was Nightmist Blue/White Interior 4-speed  car that I built a stroker FE for back in ’82.  I sold it in ’82-’83 and have been looking for it for the past 20 years.  If someone can find it, there’s a good size reward. Thanks for all the posts and the memories they invoke.

Sounds like you know exactly what you like and have filled your shop and lifts with them. I like the height of your shop—lets you get the cars as high as you need them to be for working underneath. Also allows for lots of storage of ‘stuff’ during restorations. A great setup.

My two Mustang choices would be just before and after yours: a ’66 GT350H in black—a clone since a real Shelby is out of reach. I have a photo of my 6′ 4″ son standing next to one that makes it look amazingly small, or I would say, just the perfect size since I like smaller vehicles. The other would be a ’68 GT in Highland Green like the ones Steve McQueen drove in Bullitt.

I don’t know enough about early Mustang fastbacks and Shelbys to pick out the clone, but they are my most wanted US car, among 4-seaters anyway. I’ve never owned one but have come close…..nearly hit the Buy-It-Now button on a few cars on ebay, but they were always too far away or iffy to take a chance on buying that way.

Thanks for showing us your shop & cars.

    Jim C,
if you are still in the L.A area and that is where the ’67 was sold, it wouldn’t hurt to post on the Boss 302 website in off topic. Having had my share of B2’s I know some of the local SoCal guys have been in the scene for a long while and are into more than B2’s. There is one fellow in Vista that has his finger on many a pulse that checks in on the site………so you never know. Or the fellow that sells vintage style Paxton superchargers in San Marcos Ca, he is a well known Shelby expert.
