What’s In Jim S’s Barn?

jims-garage

Barn Finds wouldn’t be what it is without all our great commenters and contributors. Jim S. is one of those guys that makes this site tick, so when he sent in a photo of what is lurking in his garage, we knew we had to post it. He thinks it will be easy to identify, but we are so sure. Remember to mention the make, model, AND year in the comments section. We will let Jim fill us in later on who figured it out and the story behind it. Thanks for sharing Jim! We love to see what is parked in our readers garages, so please keep them coming guys!

It’s an early Rolls Royce Silver Shadow, probably 1966. It can alternately be a ’66 Bentley T1. Both are the worst automobiles Rolls Royce ever produced. Looks like a Mulliner Park Ward body.

I am joining in late, again, but
I believe only a couple of people are right on.
I believe it to be a late seventies (1974 or later) US model Rolls Royce Silver Shadow or they also named it later Silver Wraith (rubber on the rear bumper).
It could also be an equivalent (body style-) Bentley, about the same years, but I don’t think they made them for the US market (at least not this Body style).

Yep, it is a “Roller”, but I don’t know enough about features to decide which year. I’ll go with mid-70’s, but that is as close as I’m going to get!

Square mirrors say Silver Shadow II,without seeing the bumpers can’t be sure but I’d say 1977.

Taking a break from the Daytona 24, I love sports car racing, nothing sweeter then a Porsche as it roars down the high banks or the scream of a mighty Ferrari as it streaks by you on the straight!

thanks for posting that and to everyone who commented. that was a lot of fun. i bought it used and unrestored. i could not make it into a daily driver because of system issues with brakes, steering and the 7 to 12 MPG. glad i bought, it was a pain to own and glad i sold it. i would not buy another Rolls as 1 was enough.

Well at least you know that you could have taken the car into a Chevy dealer for an AC or trans repair.

All kidding aside these like those old Jags had such wonderful interiors, the woods, the leathers, that smell, I loved those 3.8 mk 11 Jags.

    Jim,

Rolls are kind of cool, for a few minutes. For a while you feel like royalty, then you realize everyone looking at you hates you, and that in fact, you’re driving a really high quality Electra 225.

Secretly, I’d love an old Bentley Continental, but when you find you could buy the Lancia Beta talked about elsewhere on this list for the price of an alternator, it give you pause……

yes, i think/know i would enjoy a town car much more then the Rolls. but i just had to have a Rolls and now i have the lust for one out of my system.

Very late to this, but thanks for sharing JIm. There is an Acid Yellow (original colour) series 1 driving around where I live. Spoke to the owner who had just disposed of an 850 Spider! I’m waiting to pull up behind it in my fluorescent yellow W116. There’s not much out there on John Blatchley, but his designs (including the Conti R and this) would place him in the top echelons.

My guess would have been a Volvo with a J C Whitney Rolls Royce dress-up kit.

It’s a late model (Type 2 post ’77),they fitted internally adjustable door mirrors (I think the same units as on Euro-spec Fords),it can be hard to pin down the exact model year.Over here (in Olde England!), RR Shadows end up as wedding cars (White,of course).
