11,000 Mile Workhorse: 1996 Ford F-150

s-l1600

A few weeks ago, I rented a 2016 Ford F-150 crew cab with the new 3.5L Ecoboost turbo under the hood. Man, what I truck – I fell in love right then and there. So I get home, hop onto Ford’s website, and what do I find? That same truck I rented comes to about $50K when you build one yourself! I guess it’s no surprise, then, that this 1996 F-150 with only 11,000 original miles is enjoing active bidding here on eBay, with the reserve still unmet.

While that 2016 I rented was all sorts of nice, we forget that the F-150’s interior ten years ago wasn’t a bad place to spend time – we just haven’t seen one as clean in quite a while. From the steering wheel to the no-nonsense dashboard cluster and layout, this is still a utilitarian environment, but it’s not offensive at all. Every F-150 I see of this generation, however, is torn to shreds and usually border inhospitable.

The seller is a retired Ford Motor Company employee and promises that this truck has been taken care of as the factory intended. Of course, not much work has needed to be done with such low mileage. The seller is the second owner after purchasing it out of an estate sale, and it sounds like any driving he does is quite minimal. The truck spends its time in a heated garage and is never used in inclement weather.

Bidding is already over $12K with just over two days left. I can’t say I blame the seller for holding out for more money, as this F-150 appears to be worth the extra investment. Of course, you can’t actually use it for work duties, nor would you want to commute every day in one. It’s definitely a centerpiece and nice for bringing to shows, but forget about bringing it to Home Depot – this one deserves a continued work-free existence.

Auction ended because no longer available. Probably sold locally.

Beautiful example of the breed – so rare to see them like this anymore.

I have one of both… 95 XL beater truck with the 300 six, rubber mats, crank windows, and a 15 daily driver with the 5.0 V8 and a bunch of buttons that I have yet to figure out. I almost like driving the old one better than the new… just a good old simple truck.

95, 96 ford pickups were the best pickups of all times. Practical, comfortable and reliable. I would have one of these over any newer truck. The new ones are to high to load easily, super expensive and not as nice to drive.

Someone got a clean truck, for sure. This is kind of around the era, I wanted nothing to do with Ford trucks.( any truck, really. I have a ’96 Sonoma, and I’ll never buy anything newer than that again) Granted, it may be a while, but I’ve worked on many of these, and I give up on these. Just a night mare when they fail. I think it’s worth it, like getting a new truck for 12g’s, but it’s certainly not collectible, and will, at best, just be a nice pickup for someone to use. This one sure is clean.

    I have one that’s similar. 1995 F150 XLT – 74K on the clock.

    …and it’s 20 years ago, not 10!

Growing up my father had a 93 and a 96. The 96 was an awesome truck. It had a white exterior, blue interior, extended cab to fit our family of 6 and a plow. I even had a large die-cast toy version with John Deere logos.

I used to help my father plow in the winter and in the summer he would take the top half of the plow mount off and had a push bar mounted on the plow brackets. The only negative thing was a stupid alarm system that someone hacked in that would act up once in a while. I miss that truck.

Ok couple things ’96 was 20 years ago not 10. This is gorgeous and someone got a screaming deal on a new 20 year old truck. Hopefully they use it, as the original owner lost money on this one. Always did prefer a Ford, and I still miss my 2 tone, black over silver ’88 4×4 F250. Ex wife got it and ran it to the ground.

Beautiful truck. Awesome engine. Right color. Worth every penny south of 15k.

This is SO MUCH MORE Truck than the 20 years older one listed here a week ago. And for essentially the same price? No brainer….

This one wins, hands down, unless you are outfitting a 70’s museum.
