13 Rolls-Royces Found in Small-town Garage

1939-wraith-sedan

For the most part, this site has covered North American barn finds. We know there are discoveries made all over the world everyday though, with some of the best ones in Europe, so it is always a good idea to keep an eye on what is going on over there. This stash of 13 pre-war Rolls-Royces were recently pulled out of a garage in a small town in the UK and will be going to auction on October 16 at H&H’s Imperial War Museum sale. The lineup is impressive, but we were unable to find much information on how this collection came to be.

Classic & Sports Car magazine reported on the story in August, but provided few clues about how all these prestigious cars wound up in this “small-town garage”. The auction house doesn’t provide give any hints on their site either, just mentioning that they were “entered from a private collection”. Some of the cars liter the yard, but many appear to have been stored inside what looks like a restoration shop. Obviously someone had more enthusiasm for collecting then restoring. So, does anyone here know more about this mystery Roller stockpile?

Truth is stranger than fiction – gotta love this stuff. Amazing in this day.

I must have missed that story in the August issue (best vintage furrin’ car magazine on the planet), will need to re-read.

I will say that many people do not want others to know their business. Reads like this is one of those times.

First we had the Chevrolets in Nebraska. Then the defunct AMC store. Now this. Have to wonder how many stashes there are scattered about.

That sad bunch of rotting AMCs and Nash-Healeys in the previous story makes these dusty, dirty, neglected Rolls Royces look real good.

Good call. Great looking car, never seen one before. Better than a spridget.

I love the lines on Lot #14, the 1933 PII Continental Touring Saloon. Long, low, rakish, and powerful-looking. It will undoubtedly be treated to an expensive restoration, but I’d love to just get it mechanically sorted, run a damp rag over the outside, and drive it. I can see myself bombing through the French countryside, headed toward a rendezvous in Monte Carlo with a dangerous brunette…
