Just when you think every low-mileage Fox body has been discovered, another one climbs out of the woodwork. That’s certainly the reaction I have upon seeing this stunning, sub-17,000 mile example that looks like a brand new car. The Mustang GT has the classic two-tone bodywork and accompanying kit, along with the standard wheels and tires. This automatic-equipped example is listed here on eBay with a $20,000 Buy-It-Now.
Wow – check out that cockpit. Not a sign of a loose thread or cigarette burn to be seen. The seller doesn’t tell us much about the car or its history, but it’s readily apparent someone set it aside as a collector’s item intended for long-term preservation. The maroon-on-maroon may not be to everyone’s liking, but it is entirely period correct. The 5.0-embroidered carpets are probably my favorite detail out of everything in the cabin!
When you see an underside like this, you immediately know a car has effectively never been driven, or only driven under very specific situations. While we all love to see spotless bodywork up top, seeing a chassis like this is almost as enjoyable. The Mustang is located in Wisconsin, which certainly gets snow on occasion – so this Fox body has likely only been used in the most idyllic of weather conditions. The fuel lines and exhaust likewise appear to be near-new in condition.
The paintwork is beautiful, and the only thing that would make it better is if this Mustang GT had a 5-speed. That being said, this GT will likely never seen extensive use, only continuing to be a showpiece of someone’s collection – so the transmission choice likely doesn’t matter much in a case like this. The asking price is high but also in keeping with what cars in this condition trade hands for, so I doubt you’ll see much of a discount off the asking price.
Here’s one you can daily drive, depending on how much snow you get of course. You can drive this for 5 yrs trouble free and you wouldn’t lose much in depreciation. Why not enjoy it
Looks like an excellent Fox Body. The automatic will hold back the price a bit. Still lots of fun to be had.
The car begs for a better presentation. The description is meager and the photography is poor, though it does include some undercarriage shots. If I was trying to sell something this nice and get top dollar for it, I’d make sure its presentation was top-notch. Off my soapbox now.
Incredibly nice and unmolested. But why no engine bay pics. 20 g’s although a nudge high is acceptable if a thorough inspection don’t reveal something haywire. As per the a.o.d. for every day commute its ok and at worse haul it over to a decent tranny shop and have a mild shift kit installed. Even if it has the standard 2.73 rear end it’ll still give plenty of kick and great highway millage
Robert, i believe the autoloaders w the AOD were at least blessed w 3.27 gearset ⚙️ from the Ford factory 🏭.
Stan you may be right on that. 3.27’s even better
All the AOD equipped ’87-’93 5.0 Mustangs came standard with 2.73 gears. The 3.27 gears were an option.
Looks very much like one of the 1989 GT’s I had years ago. The only difference was mine had the 5 speed. The maroon one I actually purchased (around 1996) to replace one that I’d wrecked as a stupid 19 year old a couple of years prior. You could buy them in pretty decent condition back then for around $5k or so. The one I wrecked looked similar, but it was “Vermillion” (red) rather than maroon, had gray interior (which I preferred), and was a 5 speed. If this one was identical, I’d be very tempted at $20k. I still kick myself for wrecking that original car. I believe the maroon one was geared differently and just never quite measured up to the original red car that I had. I’ve found it’s hard to replace a beloved car. “You really can’t go back” is a fitting cliche, unfortunately.
Just beautiful. I prefer the cleaner look of the LX compared to the boy racer body kit of the GT but to each his own. That being said though, who buys a car like this and doesn’t drive the snot out of it? Good for the prospective owner though.
20K for a brand new classic. I could go for that. Now if only it was a manual Wow .
Worth the price. If I was in the states right now ud be interested. 20k for a nice daily driver.
Too bad it’s an automatic and a hatchback. I would love to find a straight shift notch-back.
Undercuts a brand new Ecoboost Mustang, which is also an automatic, by 10K.
So, you can choose which is most important to you: brand new or instant classic.
That’s a fair price for that!
I think it is a beautiful car. The AT would be fine for my use, although a 5 speed would be more desirable for most folks?
Perhaps reasonably priced considering the milage?
No engine pictures is baffling though?
Just my oponion!
I had a 90 GT the same colors with a AOD, it was a fun car and even more fun after I installed 3:73 rear gears. The automatic trans just kills these cars though, a 5 speed is so much more fun to drive. I sold it 20 years ago but would probably still have it if it were a manual.
I love my LX convertible. These are great cars. In 23 years I have done virtually nothing to mine. He sleeps wakes right up and is always ready for an adventure. Someone is going to get a great car here.
Auction ended with no takers.
Where is the car located
