1941 Dodge Luxury Liner

Luxury Liner

This 1941 Dodge Luxury Liner Custom Series D19 “Brougham” is listed here on here on craigslist for $10,999. It appears that 22,318 were produced and the owner says this is the rarest body style, two doors with a “sofa-like” backseat.  A barn find in Kansas City, Missouri in 2011, bought and moved to Arizona and then the present owner purchased her in Massachusetts.

'41 Dodge front seat

The owner (the 3rd) says that the exterior was repainted once.  The interior is original, the water temp., oil pressure, ammeter, and fuel gauges are working.  The speedometer/odometer are not functioning.  The horn wiring needs to be addressed and the floor-panel patches have been bolted in and not welded yet.

'41 Dodge engine

The owner says that this is likely an original engine with a rebuilt or NOS: starter, generator, ignition coil, distributor, wires, plugs, water pump, fuel pump, carburetor, brakes, fuel sender, and a 6V Optima Red Top battery.  All the gears work including reverse.  The owner dropped the fuel tank and had it sealed as well as some recent brake work.

'41 Dodge truck

The truck looks clean with the spare and jack intact.

'41 Dodge

There are some bumper and trim pieces that are included with this purchase.  The owner says he is under no pressure to sell.  He now lives in Seattle and he doesn’t have the time to spend on this piece of American history so it’s time for it to go to a good new home. Are you ready?

Motor-on,
Robert

That’s a lot of money for that car. I saw a nice 41 Plymouth in much better condition last month in Minneapolis for $5500.

Looks like a solid start for a resto. Expect to invest another 25 to 30k bringing it up to muster. They do ride very nice, not powerful but comfortable at highway speed (50-55) . I have a ’39 , same engine and chassis. Rare as production in 41 went mostly to military and chrome was usually not used. Many of these had painted trim as the chrome was needed for weapons production. Factory colors all had military names, i.e. aircruiser blue, marine beige, etc. Nice find.

Why would that be the case? US didn’t enter the WWII until after Pearl Harbor was bombed on December 7, 1941, after all 1941 model production was completed.

My favourite kind of cars pre and post war era cars just have that classy look before the styling engineers got carried away with big fins. I am a fan of dodge cars but I got to say that they made some ugly cars in the late 50’s early 60’s. This seller IMHO has his head in the clouds on his price as his car still has a lot more work needed to justify that price.

The first year for ‘Fluid Drive’, which made the car a real dog on performance. They sold new for under $1000. If it is restored, it would still be a dog.
