$3,900 1946 Ford Club Convertible Project

1946-Ford-Convertible-Project

This 1946  Ford Super Deluxe Club Convertible is a rolling chassis without a title, but the price makes it tempting. These originally came with Ford’s 100hp Flathead V8 and were quite handsome cruisers. Since this one is obviously a project we would probably go with a hot rod theme and shove something a little more modern under the hood. If it’s good enough for Tim Allen, it’s good enough for us. Find it here on craigslist in St. Louis for $3,900 obo. A special thanks goes to Scot C. for the tip.

If that car was headed my way I’d be inclined to restore it to bone stock. Well, maybe warm the flathead over, or, if the engine didn’t come with it, drop in a later Mercury flathead. I wouldn’t do anything that couldn’t be changed back at a later date. If it’s a complete body and chassis, it deserves to be as Henry built it.

I like that you would keep it all Ford! So sick of seeing old Fords with GM power plants!! I would love to do an old Ford & keep it ALL Ford!! I’ve been a Ford fan since my teens, I in my 60’s now. I’ve had a few Fords I’ve built. a 64 Fairlane & a 64′ Falcon, I had the same engine in both a 289 HP. If I still had the 289, that would go in 46! Would love to see the finshed Project!

Isn’t this the car Biff drove in Back to the Future?

That makes three of us. I’ll always remember in Back to the Future II when Doc said: “He has a ’46 Ford; It’ll cut through us like tin foil!”

Nice find. It does not appear to have been left out under that tree for long. Probably an excellent start for a very unique ragtop.

    A ’46 ford wouldn’t have a title it would have a registration.

Probably the best vehicle of today’s 3 entries, but the photo documentation is somewhat limited, soooo…look inside and under everywhere first.

~ should the need for a PPI become serious for any reader, i gladly volunteer to run initial interference with this seller. what we call a real-time walk-around. live video of specific panels or vulnerable areas, question and answer w/ current owner, prior to committing to a bid.
(one of my first cars was a ’48 coupe w/ ’53 Mercury flathead and ’50s/’60s mods)
      love these!! !! !!

Scot, I am very interested in this. Have you seen the car in person?
I would just like to know what the rust situation is.
        Thanks!
        Wm.

~ William, here are 8 shots i took during my brief visit with Russ this afternoon. he’s quite an interesting guy to talk with, an old school hot rodder with one of those lost hoards of old cars. as he says barn finds without the barn.

there is also a second convertible shell with much of the top hardware and a ’46-8 sedan stored elsewhere for parts available, although those prices are not yet determined.
there are other pictures of the group in the computer but i’m running back out in another direction to load some big block Chevy parts and may not get back for a while.
give Russ a call and let him tell you what he’s got.

~ if you search Russ’ phone number on StLouis craigslist you will see some of his preliminary offerings. a couple old replicas and some parts, ’40 Mercury Convertible, ’48 Plymouth Coupe, ’36 Ford Convertible, and so on. he is planning a move out of state so – more to come.

I would think that an Arden headed Flathead with multi 98’s on top would be the perfect mill for a period “Hot Rod” look…
