From Eric J – This truck was driven into the barn in 1995 where it continues to rest today. Still wears its last farm plate and the odometer shows 43k miles. Motor turns over and we feel that with a battery and fresh gas/oil/coolant it will start right up. Brakes may be another story. I tried to take pics of the good and the bad, but the space is tight. Typical rust in the rockers with some patches already applied. There’s a couple of dings and dents, not to mention past mouse presence. But, overall probably one of the most solid barn finds available in Upstate NY!

I’m in upstate NY, and I can attest, there’s all kinds of classic stuff in the weeds here. Not like my home of Wisconsin, where everything is pretty picked over. Just down the road from where I’m staying, is a ’38 or ’39 Ford 1 ton flatbed, I’m dying to ask if they’d sell it. I can’t make out the numbers on the hood ( designating this as a late ’49), but it’s probably the 3800 1 ton, judging by the front wheels. I bet it would start, but that’s where progress would stop. Gonna need everything, and to be honest, it’s not quite clean enough to put this body on a newer frame. Years ago, you could get these cheap, ($100 bucks) cobble it together, and putt around the farm(ette), but just not sure it’s worth it now.

I see a 1949 Chevy class 3 motorhome with a modern diesel drivline.
Would be a challenge as to what to do with it. Of course I’m always in there with the restore it and use it part. These trucks were everywhere when I was a kid and now the majority of them have been used up and thrown away. That’s likely a 216 in there although it could possibly be a 235. Either way you’ll be limited as to your top speed and the roads you travel. I’d fix it and enjoy it the way it was originally made to be enjoyed…
