1952 Chevrolet: Reasonably Priced Survivor?

front

At $1,680 this old Chevy here on craigslist seems reasonable, but who knows what you’d really find upon inspection. As always, it would be nice to have more pictures and especially in this case. It’s claimed to be original, unmolested, and the engine turns. Most Chevys of this vintage were manuals, but this one has a power glide. That’s perhaps rare, but you just might prefer the 3 speed. Rust, as always, is the question. Are there really only a few little holes in the floor? All the spare head bits might indicate it’s had some work done on the top end. There are lots of options, but wouldn’t it be great to keep this old Chevy as near stock as possible?

so its $1860 and in description it’s $1680. Also comes with an extra clutch disc for that automatic tranny.

Hi Vince. I tend to agree with you in that it’s a ’51. It seems to me that ’52 was the year the grill began to grow teeth.

WHY is this being called a ” survivor ” …. ??? It’s one thing when the word is used incorrectly by novices in ads, but it’s too-frequent use here is getting ‘old’., and I don’t mean vintage.

Seems like a good price for this old sled. Them old stovebolt six’s will run forever with minimal work and I’ll bet some Marvel Mystery oil in the cylinders, new points and plugs and a carb rebuild will have it chugging away in no time.

i kind of like this. simple, unpretentious. will not be a garage queen. the floor shot of the accelerator looks solid, i wish the interior shots were in focus. there is a largish dent or crease on the passenger side roof that would be a bugger to fix but if you can live with that it would make for an interesting laid back cruiser.

back in the late 70s an acquaintance of mine used to always drive bone stock 4 door impalas from the mid-60s. gorgeous condition. i was definately not impressed then as 2 door coupes were all the rage – no one wanted to be caught in an old mans car. i asked him why the 4 door not the 2. his answer was cost and condition. the 2 doors were already priced out of his range for a high school kid but his relative somewhere in western farm country kept an eye out for him. one car got totaled and he had a new one in 2 weeks.

ive come to like the 4 door version and this simple front end of this one is endearing.

So, at which point does reasonable price become a no brainer? To me it’s when the sum of parts on the car exceeds the asking price – which appears to be the case here. My motto is to buy the best you can afford but many out there are hands on guys preferring to do it all themselves. This would be a great project to undertake due to vehicle simplicity, parts availability at reasonable prices. I bet that this car bought just the way it is can be daily flipped for profit at any of the vintage shows

in 1962 at 16 y o. my first car was a 1952 red chevy convertable deluxe including a radio, power glide tranny, fender skirts and black convertable roof. it was in good shape until a cargo truck ran a red light and totaled the car. i have an amt, exact model of it. same fire engine red, black vert top. i had to hand make the fender skirts. lol what memories.
