1955 MG TF 1500: Classic Roadster

1955 MG TF 1500

I’ve always thought the MG T series of cars looked fantastic, but I never really understood the appeal of a ’50s car that was built on pre war technology until I drove our Singer. While they are different cars, they were competitors and offered similar experiences. The mix of old and new technology creates an experience unlike anything else, especially when you fold the windscreen down! This MG TF needs work and is missing its grille, but runs! It is currently located in Yuma, Arizona and can be found here on craigslist with an asking price of $9,500. That might seem a bit steep given the condition, but if it can be made safe to drive with minimal work, it could be a good buy for a classic that will certainly appreciate. It will definitely be a big project to fully restore, but it would be a fun machine that is eligible for a number of events! Can you picture yourself piloting this TF with the windscreen down, wearing a bomber jacket and a pair of driving goggles? Special thanks to Robert R for the tip!

Lovely cars to own, drive, and maintain. If not familiar with them take it to someone who is. Issues with the hubs and wood can be very costly. Not terribly difficult to fix just time and cost.

My favorite of the T-series. For that matter it’s my favorite sportscar, ever. I’m a little skeptical about this one though. Runs? I see the top rad hose is missing. for the asking price I would need to see this one run; you can pick up a complete running unit for $20K. I might add that the missing grille could set you back a grand by itself. Still I’m having a tug-o-war deciding if I want to pursue this one.
