1956 Chevrolet Drag Car: Blue II

1956 Chevy Bel Air Dragster

Wow! Look at the patina on this old drag car! Located in Burleson, Texas and available here on eBay for a buy-it-now of $8,000, this ’56 is just looking for an engine, a transmission, and a new owner. I found a mention of Joe Wester as a regular at Green Valley Dragway racing a ’69 Camaro “Blue Rat”. I wonder if that’s where the 427 that was in this car (based on the front fender lettering) ended up? Apparently, Riley Auto Supply has gone out of business as well. This car is said to be solid and not cut up, and is only showing 18k miles on the odometer. Maybe it’s always been a race car? Personally, I’d find a 427 and a four-speed transmission and get it running again for some nostalgia drags. Any fans out there remember Blue II?

it definetly has a lot of potential ,, the seller does not state if this was a lifelong drag car I would get rid of the ” patina” and at the very least paint it a primer flat black . also makes me wonder if it could be made streetable again … and having an earth pounding 427 would attract a lot of attention .. would a 396 be more cost efficient? ( I am showing my ignorance) ah, but to have the $$$

Restore or Patina? Well, I know restore is going to be the popular opinion here, but IMHO, it would a crime to loose those great period graphics!

Leave it as is! Period drag cars are hot! I would big block 4 speed it again. Make it safeand streetable and drive it.

If your name is on the side of this car, how could you pass up the offer to buy it?

I love the period graphcs. Back in the 1970s, I remember watching in awe as a painter used a similar style to put the lettering and pin stripping on a tow truck. I wonder if that is becoming a lost art now that there are alternatives like wrapping.

Got to leave the patina, would be a tragedy to lose those period graphics, its the real thing, you cant remake history.

Just grabbed this. Rest assured, the patina will be saved. Now, who’s got a 427?

Oh Yeah….drop in a greasy old 427 from some donor car, add safe tires..the same kind run showing in old photos….THEN….create another one in restored condition as was raced…Ya need two of them!
