1957 Chevrolet 5.9 Cummins Mega Cab

There’s no surer way to brand yourself as a liar than adding useless random car words to your listings, such as a paragraph worth in the description of this 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air in Midlothian, Ohio. Hoping someone looking for a “5.9 Cummins Mega Cab” (or dozens of equally dissimilar vehicles) would settle for a non-operative ’57 hard top instead seems like a long-shot, but who am I to judge? If such trickery is no bother to you, $8000 will seal the deal. Thanks to reader Rocco B. for spotting this Chevy here on craigslist. Side-note to all eagle-eyes and/or Tri-Five freaks:  what’s that side script? It’s definitely not “Bel Air,”  and looks more like “Battlestar Galactica.”

The paint job dates to 1985, about the same era as the turbine front wheels. The listing describes a few rusty parts but nothing horrible for a ’50s classic. The seller requests you bring a trailer and cash. Buyers here in Virginia rarely carry more than $1000 cash unless they’re also carrying some steel as well.

A 283 cid (4.6L) V8 (presumably non-original) and a later three-speed automatic motivate this ’57. The bright-work looks shiny and undamaged from what three mobile-phone pictures can tell us, and the listing describes the car as highly complete and original. The days when *any* ’57 Chevy commanded a premium peaked some years ago, but this could be an opportunity to own the literal poster child of ’50s Cool without cashing in your 401k. Now will you buy this ’57 instead of that Cummins Mega Cab?

I think Mega Cab means that only the door glass has tint.

Well bummer. I was hoping to see a ’57 Bel Air with a Cummins Diesel. That would be truly epic.

But other than that disappointment, it seems like a reasonable car for the money.

bring cash and a trailer–how about some pics, sparky?? Looks like could be a decent car for the $$ but how would you know unless you went to said wacko’s place and looked it over. SMFH>>Stick a 4 speed behind that 283 and cruise! Good luck to the new owner. caveat emptor.

Craigslist is rife with keyword spamming. It is a tactic I detest! When I see horribly irrelevant ads like this, I flag them, even though little to nothing is done about them.

This is a car I’d buy to enjoy. I’d throw in a 327 and a 4-speed, replace the horribly dated and ugly turbine wheels with some Halibrand Sprints, and paint it…I’m not sure what color! I sort of lean toward Colonial Cream with an Onxy Black roof, but not red. There are more than enough red ’57 Bel Airs around as it is.

I hate it too, and I also flag. I kind of wish they hadn’t posted this; they only helped him, but maybe if everyone clicks that link and flags the ad it’ll get pulled.

I did as you suggested and flagged the ad. With all those truck-related keywords, maybe he would trade for a truck. If so, he should have said “would consiser trucks in trade.” Someone looking for a Mega Cab Dodge probably isn’t going to search for “Bel Air!” The seller also gave the dubious name “John Wayne.”

As an aside, the car appears to be in Virginia, not Ohio.

Nice looking car but I’ve never seen a more stupid tactic to sell a car!! There are so many people who would love to own this car so by all means list it as it is!! The headline of the article made me believe he put a diesel in this beast!! It’s been done before by Steve Darnel. He’s an original with the vehicles he builds!!!

Is it just me or does the rear wheel look just a tad to far forward, as in this V-12, Shelby 350, Hemi Hell Cat, 409 seem like trouble? Rest assured bring cash to abandoned house @ 123 street leave tow vehicle running with $ on front seat.
Walk 5 miles, awe well u know, north south east.

I was thinking the same thing about the rear wheels at least from that angle they don’t appear to centered in the wheel opening wonder why

I believe it was originally a Fuel Injection motor with Aluminum Knockoffs. Oh wait… May be not. Just a standard 427. $8000?????
