1961 Buick LeSabre Convertible

1961 Buick LeSabre

From Eric D – Here’s one for us, boys and girls! This LeSabre is pretty cheap for a convertible project in non-rust-bucket condition. I’m not traveling to Illinois to collect it, but one of our folks here might want to. It’s listed for sale here on Hemmings for 3,750 or best offer!

I love the look of that rear deck. In the days of the high tailfins, this car zagged when others zigged –  although by 1961 some of the worst extravagances had been toned down a bit. I just like the 5 year period of GM designs (1959-1964), particularly for Pontiac, Buick and Olds. 1959 Catalina, 1961 Cutlass Supreme, 1962 Buick Wildcat, etc…

LeSabre Interior

Interior is needy and the top is obviously an issue. The front bumper needs repair, but overall the chrome and trim look to be intact (apart from the left side shoulder trim). I suspect that there may be some incipient rust hiding around and under the chrome trim (such as around the right vent window trim and gas filler).

Wildcat

I do love vent windows and it was a sad thing when they disappeared. On the plus side, that massive windshield is intact. The rubber seals likely need total replacement though. The body looks to be intact, but it’s clear that the floorboards need attention. The old nailhead engine is a plus. What do you think – does this look like a good drop-top project?

Cheap repaint in the pale yellow, Mexican blanket seats, unkink the front bumper and replace the top or just drive it on sunny days.

I have owned one for 30 years, By far the favorite car I have ever owned! They aren’t easy to find in the southern Ohio area so I snatch up any one I can get. That’s why I have mountains of parts for it. Wish I had some extra cash laying around so I could grab this one.
