1961 MGA 1600 Barn Find

1961 MGA Mk II

Now this could be the vaguest listing I have ever seen for a find. Here is all the information the seller provided about this car – 1961 MGA MK II found in Barn Needs work. I guess it tells you all you really need to know about the car, it is an MGA, a barn find, and it needs work. The photos aren’t of much help, since they are very blurry. What you can see is that this MGA has been stored in what appears to be a barn that still houses animals and farm equipment. You can also tell the engine is out of the car, but is shown in a couple photos. Its condition is unknown and the fact it is already out of the car isn’t promising. I really wish the seller would have provided more information, but on the upside they started bidding here on eBay at just $1 and without a reserve. For the right price, it would be worth taking a risk on! It’s in Georgetown, Kentucky, so maybe someone in the area can get the seller to let them have a look at it! Is anyone in the area that could take a peek at it?

That nose is sure different. Do you think they were trying to emulate a Cobra or Ferrari?

I’d much rather have that white coupe than this—and I prefer roadsters. The best thing about this deal is that it started off at $1, but it’s been downhill from there.

The frame is “OK”? Right. Engine turns? Good. But the left front fender is proud at the door telling me that it has attachment problems probably from rust. And there is a strap across the cockpit that’s probably stabilizing the doors. What else is wrong? Car has rodent nests, right front has lots of bondo, the floors are gone, but there is no information on rust among the 8 or so words in the description.

And this doesn’t even begin to deal with the revised grille opening, which looks like a former owner really wanted an AC instead of an MG. I’d still rather have the white coupe.

A face so ugly even its mother probably ran away from!

The engine “out of the car” has a 3 sync MGB gearbox so it is not original to the car

The exhaust manifold is tied up in engine comp, and manifold is installed on engine on pallet. A lot of bigger fish to fry than that though.

A poorly maintained MGA / partially disassembled barn find. What could possibly go wrong?
