1963 Ford Galaxie Fastback Project

1963-ford-galaxie-fastback-project

Halfway through 1963 Ford added a sports-roof model to the Galaxie lineup and that proved to be a very good decision. Not only did the fastback roof help with aerodynamics, but it also outsold the hardtop. This 1963 Galaxie needs a full restoration, but it does feature that sleek sports-roof, a 390 V8, and a four-speed transmission. Sounds like a good combination to us! It is also claimed to be a one owner car. Find it on Savannah, Georgia’s Craigslist with an asking price of $2,500. A special thanks goes to BF reader Dave for this submission.

Update 2/21/13 – Turns out this is one of the cars from the lawnmower repair shop find we featured a while back. Someone was able to wrangle it away from the owner and then proceeded to list it for sale online. It ended up selling for $3,250 on eBay.

Rode in an automatic version of one of these, you could barely tell it was running it was so smooth. I do like the car and I am a Chevy guy

The 63 1/2 was a real screamer with the 427SOHC, a real torque machine.

Ok, well I have a turbo on my 63 Corvair, so things were changing.

If I already did not have a project truck coming in from the West coast, I would consider hopping on this. $2500 is a good price as long as the VIN supports that it is a 390 4 speed car. Heck, even if it does not, still a good price…

    @ Jeff….
I know you’re not inferring that the SOHC was a factory option, right ?

Odd position of those jack stands, if the engine is in the car certainly the left side should be falling off the stands ??

Sounds like a former race car . Add says home made traction bars , open fender wells for headers. Engine has one head off , trans is there.

He must have sold it and the guy listing it for sale is flipping it? In the pictures he posted, that is not the location of all the mustangs and when I went to the new location of the mustangs the Galaxie was not there, I thought it must be in a storage container…but he must have sold it? I am going to go look at the Galaxie asap, it’s in the town I live in. seems like a fair price, wonder what he paid for it?

I checked ebay to see the values of 63 Galaxies and he had it listed, it sold February 14th for $3250.00. I called him today to see if it was still available… he said he already sold it

Wow, small world Scott! Looks like we missed the boat on this one. For those of you who haven’t read Scott’s lawnmower repair shop find, it can be found here. This car is in the fourth picture down. Thanks for catching that and keeping us updated Scott. That might have been the best car in the bunch.

I have a 352 2bbl cruse-o-matic example of this fastback in my garage in preservation mode. Rebuilt the motor 20 years ago. Will soon be able to get it running and on the road again. Although it may never get restored due to it’s non XL lineage.
