1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS: All The Options

chevelle1

As a matter of personal preference, I tend to place a lot of emphasis on tracking down the original optional equipment that was available when either of my two 1987 BMWs were new. Roof racks, CD changers, car covers, whatever – my goal is to have almost everything that could be found in the factory options catalog. Muscle cars like this 1965 1966 Chevy Chevelle SS here on eBay with bidding up to $14,600 get people excited in stock form, but even more so when you throw in some rare factory add-ons. According to the seller, this is a numbers-matching example with the original engine and paint, along with the desirable manual transmission! And we haven’t even gotten to the other goodies yet: knee-knocker tachometer, A/C, power steering and brakes and a Positraction rear end, among other features. The seller is keeping the tilt wheel and steering column for himself, so hopefully he is including a suitable replacement. With 4 days left to go, bidders appear to be hungry for this well-optioned Chevelle SS – what would your preferred configuration be?

    That’s not a ’65

The car is a 1966. Big body style change that year, even shorter wheelbase.

Maybe it’s an optional ’66 body. After all, the frame used on these cars remained the same from 1964-66.

Hey guys – the listing must have been updated from the time that I pulled this together. It now says 1966. Thanks for catching that!

you have to know your stuff when you read the ads, half the fun is seeing the goofs that people make when writing the ad . and then they get the pictures mixed up . also they will pump up something that is ” rare” only because you don’t see many of them, not that it was a rare production vehicle

I never have cared for sellers who keep items off a car when they are selling it. At least offer to “sell” them to the winning bidder for an additional cost. I don’t remember knee knocker tachs being that large in diameter, but it must be factory with all the spirited bidding taking place.

My favorite combination is the SS 396 with a 4-speed and poverty caps.

I can’t afford a pot to pee in nowadays, but I remember when a car like this wasn’t worth a plug nickel.

Looks to be a correct, optioned car…not sure of block stamping.

I thought GM used a gang stamp, which would leave the suffix of the vin questionable in

    my opinion.

If it were in fact a 65 Big Block Chevelle that would have made it an extremely rare Z16 Chevelle…

I have to question a significant year error, combined with the block stamp and the stated

removal of tilt and wood wheel (I’m assuming wood wheel, perhaps two spoke),

add yet a new, zero history seller…

IMHO unless you are purchasing the car in person…I’d continue shopping.

    Just my 2 cents…

    N.H.

We have updated the year. The seller had it listed incorrectly and has now corrected it also. Thanks for catching that guys!

Actually worth around, $ 200,000,000 ‘cents, IMNSHO Nova ! ! LOL. Actually, I and couple thousand of my Austin-Healey friends ‘could’ (and have ) inspected a car(s) for me butinspections were on NON-concours vehicles. Case in point: I am located in Chicago Area and the 1970 E; Camino; I coukd ‘see/read’ car was FAR from even Chev colour much less concours , wrong seat, wrong strg wheel, etc, etc.! BUT Those itrms ( + some others) matter NOT; had she been “crashed”, how was panel(s) fit, actual paint ‘condition’ over-all coverage, etc.; would Inspector DRIVE her from LA to Chi. ! ! ! !

    NOTE TO INSPECTOR:
Take MAGNET [to check for bondo] and CAMERA [take LOTS of pictures]! !

End Part 1 (due to Atty. Appt. – WILL be continued ).
