1966 Dodge Polara: Sleeper Potential

front right

Could this be, a 1966 Dodge Polara 383 big block with auto trans and only original 27,000 miles? The pictures look pretty nice, the dealer did a nice job detailing this Dodge. It’s said to be rust free, which could be possible as a California car. It doesn’t have the original black plates but the new plates begins with 7, so it was issued earlier this year. The paint on the trunk is sun damaged. The interior looks fresh. The engine bay looks clean, but not freshly detailed. Do you think this could really be what it’s supposed to be? At $10,000, I’m thinking it’s overpriced, but it is at a dealer and they are known to be flexible. There are some other interesting cars in the background, like the XKE and the Porsche. This dealer is in Torrance, in the LA area and listed here on craigslist. What would you do with this? Would you keep it original or would you be tempted to make some upgrades? If you kept it looking stock it could make a great “sleeper” or perhaps you could just upgrade the suspension and brakes. I’d keep it just the way it is.

Checked the Craigslist listing. I must not be up on my California speak, but what the heck is a bogged up Hodge car?

Nice looking Dodge. A 383 will not make this a hot rod but will cruise with authority. What a shame about the trunk paint, otherwise this would just need a shine.

Its butt must have been sticking out of the car port.

Must be a Brit or Aussie, h’e talking like Austin Powers. Nice car – and see all of the other old cars surrounding it, looks like they are in a cargo area.

Nice car and a 2 door hardtop is even nicer. I’m not buying the 27k miles either. The driver door armrest has the foam coming through. The trunk looks well used also. The little valleys appear to be well worn and the trunk latch has the paint worn off it.

No clear coat in ’66. Unless this car has been repainted, that color goes all the way to the primer.
