Everyone loves a good barn find, especially when it’s something cool like a Fastback Mustang or a Camaro Convertible. Here we have the latter and there is no doubt this is a real deal barn find. We will let you decide if that is a good or bad thing in this case. It’s going to need a lot of work but might be a good project for the right person.
Score! It looks like our Camaro has a 4-speed! The base grill and hood told us this car isn’t an SS or an RS, but the Hurst shifter and center console make us wonder about what may be hiding under that hood. Questions like that are what make every barn find experience exciting.
Well, you can’t win them all. We were all hoping for a 327 at least but unfortunately, that’s just a humble 140 horsepower inline-six. Don’t get me wrong, the Turbo-Thrift was a good engine and would work perfectly fine for top-down summer cruises and parade events. We were just all wanting a little more muscle.
Perhaps that engine is the perfect excuse to build this car the way you want it. There’s going to be rust repair and the old respray is shot so pick your color and engine option. Which route would you go? Bright orange with an LS swap or maybe something more subtle with a crate engine? The options are limitless. If you’d like to build it your way, find it here on eBay where the auction is ending soon.

May 5, 2022 at 11:37pmAccording to the VIN, this is an original V8 car. And cowl tag says it’s 4 speed Camaro from the factory, plus Center console, rear antenna, interior and exterior decor group…
Marina Blue, White top, and Blue standard interior.

May 6, 2022 at 3:40pmMaybe it was a big block originally & the 6 was thrown in during the gas shortage of ’73 & kept it there after seeing how smooth those things run?
Otherwise, i never heard of anyone in their right mind throwing a 6 into a v8 camaro. lol
All i need to see next is a non chevy v8 put in ANY old chevy.
CaCarDude says
May 6, 2022 at 10:41pmIn all my years I have only seen one non chevy v8 transplant and it was in a ’56 Chevy 2dr post. My good friend back in HS days (late 60’s) removed the 6 banger and did a ’57 Cadillac v8 transplant, it turned out really nice and was a true road beast. He appropriately called it as his Chevrolac.

Or was this just your roundabout way of volunteering to share your knowledge and become a writer for BF? If that’s the case, I look forward to reading your impeccable work.

Bluetec320 says
May 6, 2022 at 7:17am@Frank Thompson, there are hundreds of other car sites and forums on the internet. If you are not happy with this (FREE) one, simply move on and don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
As for me, I would like to take this time to thank not only Jesse, but all of the BF staff for a GREAT job!! 👍👍

May 6, 2022 at 8:51am@Frank Thompson – where can we find your writings? I’d like to see just how vast your knowledge is.
Poppy says
May 6, 2022 at 10:00am@Frank – And just what do you think Jesse doesn’t know “concerning years, etc.” An “expert” like you probably thinks it’s a ’68 just because it doesn’t have vent windows(?). Well, if you read the listing you’ll see that the doors were changed. The body tag in the clearly shows 67. If you had any class you’d apologize to Jesse, but I won’t hold my breath.

May 6, 2022 at 6:08pmListen, Frank. If you’re such an expert in the field of writing, why is it that you used the wrong form of “to,” and for your use of “etc” you used commas in between the three letters? As others have already suggested, there are many other car sites available for you to find more happiness. I encourage you to explore those.

May 6, 2022 at 6:31pm@Frank – I don’t know everything but after running Barn Finds for over 10 years and owning an embarrassing amount of cars, I think it’s safe to say I have a little more than zero car knowledge. It looks like our readers cleared up a few things for me so I’ll leave it at that.

May 6, 2022 at 10:00amThe gas gauge is for a ’68, and it looks like it does NOT have vent windows or side marker lights – but the trim tag shows it’s a ’67.

May 6, 2022 at 10:16amThis car is a little confusing. The VIN says 67 yet the grill, lack of front window vents and taillights with the integral back up lamps tell me it’s a 68. Yet the missing side marker lamps also say it’s a 67. Hmm, any thoughts on this?
And by the way Jesse, thanks for the find and the write up. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it.
Thomas H. Johnson says
May 6, 2022 at 10:50amThe taillights are ’68 also.
356ASuper says
May 6, 2022 at 11:10amThey changed the doors, grill, dash, shaved the marker lights, and put a six cylinder in it, but those mudded over rivits on the trim tag don’t draw any suspicion?
19sixty5 says
May 6, 2022 at 1:32pmMost of the original GM body tags were “mudded over” from the factory. It is a dum-dum material or a seam sealer. These days people tend to over-restore, highlight the markings or even polish these plates.
TPK says
May 6, 2022 at 12:05pmThis is definitely a 1967. The ad even mentioned that the doors were changed. Besides the obvious VIN, there are no side marker lights on the fenders, the Interior door card and arm rest is 1967 vintage, and the tail lights are 1967.
Joe Bru says
May 7, 2022 at 2:48amTPK: Does have 67 tags but large armrests are 68 and so are taillights due to divider.

May 6, 2022 at 1:15pmBack in the early ’90’s I had a chance to buy a ’67 one owner Camaro ragtop for $5k, it was light green with 6 cyl and 3 spd. I thought it was way overpriced at the time and passed. Dang, if I only knew what these would be selling for today.

May 6, 2022 at 3:15pmHere’s an idea. Read the ENTIRE ad. The original ad, before you start asking questions or making stupid statements. There is always a link provided in the first paragraph that will take you there. Next, read the comments. Between the original ad itself, and the comments that have been posted earlier, many of your questions will likely be answered.
Then you can comment on youthful memories of your cousin’s boss’s gardener’s brother’s car that the featured car reminds you of.
