Second Glance Needed: 1969 Cadillac Eldorado

061916 Barn Finds - 1969 Cadillac Eldorado - 2

This 1969 Cadillac Eldorado is in Matawan, New Jersey and is on eBay with an unmet opening bid of $2,500, and even then the reserve won’t be met. This would be a great car but it will need a lot of work. This is a sixth-generation Eldorado and although it looks rough, very rough, on the initial pass through the photos, on second glance it looks real solid, just dirty. Could this possibly be the same color as the car for sale here? This car looks like it’s Astral Blue to me, but it’s hard to tell under all of that grime.

This 18.5 foot long car looks like it was just dragged out of a barn, or a storage unit, or the corner of a garage; or maybe the weeds. It’s in rough-looking shape. I might have spent 15 minutes washing the exterior and another 10 minutes vacuuming the interior before listing it for sale, but that’s just me. Rust-wise, it looks solid. I don’t see any rust here at all, or at least any rust-through. The more you look at this car, and check out all of the photos of the exterior, it really looks rock solid! Maybe the $2,500 opening bid isn’t as la-la-land as I first thought it was. This is one cool-looking car! I think that a good wet-sanding and paint would make it look like a million bucks again. Or, maybe skip the paint unless you’re doing a full-blown restoration.

This is the only interior photo and there aren’t any engine photos, unfortunately. And, as you can see this interior is probably in worse shape than the exterior is. The interior should look like this, and it could again with some work. And, here’s what the engine should look like. Or, what it looked like when it was new. This car will take some work, a lot of work. But, at least the body appears to be super solid, which is nice. What do you think this car is worth as it sits now? Is this one worth restoring or would it make more sense to just clean it up, get the mechanicals working great again, and drive it?

This girl has an ass to turn a man’s head.
These were the last Eldos worth a look.
To bad it wasn’t available with hide away head lights or a rag top.

The 67/68 Eldo’s were better looking with the Hide a Ways but this car’s fixed headlights are less of a headache. Considering it’s location, pics of the underside would be necessay before spending any money. I still think the interior will smell musty even with two air freshener “trees”……..

Agreed, I would def want to see pics of the condition of the floorboards and under the hood before I would make a bid on that. What scares me is the rust-thru hole that’s observable at the leading edge of the door sill. If there is cancer there, it’s likely there is more elsewhere.

The 67/68s had hidden headlamps, and are my favorite American iron from this period. I like this one anyway, maybe because most cars look good in blue….

Being in New Jersey, if this were triple black, it might have been a “Family” car…

You could make two Honda Civics out of this and still have sheet metal left over. That hood is bigger than most picnic tables. These were some great designs and they rode like floating on the clouds. Now all they need is some late model technology under the hood that will deliver strong performance and respectable fuel economy.

Obviously the seller has a trailer, he could bring the car somewhere other than a muddy construction yard to photograph it. Maybe wash all the mold off and fill the tires, run a vacuum through it.

Nah, why would you do that.

FWD drive tech from the Toronado so no trans tunnel. 472 I think? Plenty of power to move it along even w/AC on. These were nice cars. Deserves a better listing and better owner/fate than it currently has.

Deserves a better fate? Well, yeah, that’s kind of the point of “Barn Finds” innit? :)

I had one of these for 5 minutes in 1974. You could actually see the gas gauge move downwards as the car sat and idled. While driving this landyacht the gas gauge was in full downward motion.
Beautiful and sexy design though. Loved it for the full 5 minutes I had it.
