1969 Camaro SS: X55 Project

1969 Camaro SS350

The Camaro was offered with a wide variety of options and packages. Like most American cars of that area, desirability is based on the options. Decoding the options can be kind of tricky for those that don’t specialize in these cars. Heck I look at classic cars every single day and I struggle to keep track of all the designations and codes that Chevy used on the Camaro. This ’69 Camaro SS is listed as an X55 project and if you aren’t a Camaro nut you probably have no clue what that means. The X55 designation tells us this car was a base body optioned with the 300 horsepower SS350. It isn’t the most desirable of Camaros, but all V8 pony cars are in demand. I have noticed values have been going down slightly for these lower model cars, so I’m not sure how realistic the seller’s $9,750 asking price is. If the car were complete it would easily command this kind of money, but its front clip is off, the engine and transmission are gone, and some of the front body panels are missing. If this were a higher optioned car, I’m sure someone would jump on it, but this one might be a tough sell as it sits. You can take a look at it here on craigslist in Bigfork, Montana. As is, what would you offer the seller for their unfinished project?

    Translation:
NO, I DIDN’T MEAN THE CAR IS COMPLETE. I MEANT THAT EVERYTHING ABOUT THE CAR WILL REQUIRE LOTS OF MONEY AND WORK.

95% complete, so I guess the engine is 1 part and the transmission is 1 part.

I think being an X55 has no bearing, since the engine is gone, and that’s what the X55 is.

This is no different from a base car except for the posi.
    Way too much money.

Paul, X55 has nothing to do with the engine. It means no bright trim around wheel openings and on drip molding. I’ve read that it also means no rear fender louvre trim but I question that because the 69 Camaro SS I ordered as an X55 did come with rear louvre trim.

One poor quality photo. Poor and very vague description. Really shitty attitude. “Firm” asking price that is completely out of touch with reality and at least double what that hulk is worth. The seller is either delusional or is under orders from the wife to get rid of “…that piece of junk that yer never gonna do anything to,” and figures that now he can tell the ol’ lady, “See hon, I tried, I really tried to sell but ain’t nobody interested.”

    PASS!

Advice would be the major thing to offer. Nothing turns off potential buyers like a lousy ad; one crappy picture, attitude (don’t bother me except to throw money at me, or I’ll kick your butt), caps lock on is another indication of attitude.

As for the car; at best worth 1/2 the ask.

the seller says it is 95% complete it just states the front clip is “off” not “gone” the ass end looks good, but how about the rest of it? yes, the price is a bit steep nice color combo but that isn’t basis for a sale.. he needs to provide more info and pics

In the words of the guys of Misfit Garage There is no meat left on the bone for profit. With no engine and transmission. No Thank you very much. I think everyone thinks they are ace car flippers lately. Wanting something for nothing!
