1969 Dodge Charger White Hat Special

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Structural rust, a non-original engine, and rust and dents on nearly every metal panel top the list of reasons *not* to buy this 1969 Dodge Charger in Louisburg, Kansas. Toss those minor inconveniences aside, though, and you could own an epic Mopar muscle car in stunning F6 Bright Green Metallic. When new, the A41 “White Hat Special” option capped the shiny green Dodge with a dapper white vinyl top. Plenty of ’69 Chargers that appear to have been dredged up from a pond and/or with sizable trees growing up through them still summon suitors looking for a bargain dream car. This thoroughly worked-over example has potential, and the listing here on eBay has at least 11 bidders picturing themselves behind the wheel. Bidding tops $23,500 with about three days to go.

Though not the original 383 cid (6.3L) four barrel High Performance V8, the stand-in certainly looks the part, and most factory air conditioning parts seem to have survived the cars tenure on planet Earth. Typical battery box rust might be worse than it looks, but specific areas mentioned by the seller need metal replacement or structural repair. The engine “turns over,” hopefully after some careful oiling, but the seller states they have not tried to start it. Thanks to the fender tag decoder at realdash for some details.

The abbreviated seam at the C pillar is typical for a vinyl top car. Dodge might have saved money by offering the vinyl top for free vs. the labor of fully leading the sail panel. I’m guessing that right rear quarter is more crumpled than it looks, as anyone buying this car will expect.

The F6 “luxury” interior in green and C16 center console with wood grain panel match the original equipment. Nearly everything visible can be sourced new. If double-green isn’t your dream, imagine a stunning black and white interior to compliment the white top.

There’s no bad view of a ’69 Charger. Compared to 1968’s circular tail lights, these wide rectangular units cut a futuristic and sporty look that’s a home run in my book. Would you put this Charger back to stock or build it your way?

What creature chewed up that seat and what did they leave behind. Better be caught up on your shots before going anywhere near this one. Back when the world was more reasonable, we didn’t mind such dangers because the cost of entry was modest. How you can charge so much for something like this today shows a lot of bravado and bluster.

In a year or two I think I’m going to regret not selling out of the car hobby now.

I’m wondering the same thing Melton.
I definitely want to keep a couple around, and one I’ll never sell. None of them are show cars, not my style, just compete, solid drivers. With gas prices and inflation skyrocketing it’s hard not to believe that the correction will happen sooner rather than later…

Please tell me there’s an extra zero in the asking price.

O.K., but I’m lying, LOL!! I foresee someone buying this, and then when finding out just HOW MUCH it’s going to cost, after some time has elapsed putting it back on the market; hoping to recoup their expenditures, before the bubble bursts! But then, what do I know??? :-)

Does the white hat come with patina too?

Guys, the BIDDING is up to $23,000.00, the owner is not ripping anyone off. Could be someone sees what I see. Could you imagine this car restored with a white top AND white interior? It would be a stunner for sure. Todd, sorry buddy. 1968 is the best year with the smooth grille and round taillights. I’ve owned many 68-70 Chargers, 68’s just do it for me.

Jimmy: One of the shill bidders could be a relative or friend of the seller.
