1971 Ford Torino 500 Wagon: GT Looks

torinowagon

Sometimes, an ordinary car catches your eye with the simplest visual tweaks: in this case, a set of polished dog-dish style wheels and a GT hood completely transformed my opinion of a 1971 Torino 500 wagon found here on eBay. Of course, I generally have warm feelings towards any form of the Torino since Clint Eastwood’s memorable performance in Gran Torino (“Get off my lawn,” anybody?) This ’71 estate version has aged gracefully, though the GT hood doesn’t feature the same patina-kissed paint the rest of the car wears. With a host of suspension updates and cold A/C still blowing, it looks like a great summer getaway vehicle, and would certainly add to the charm of a beach cottage or other warm-weather retreat if parked in the driveway. The price isn’t awful, but I’d be tempted to make a lower offer, perhaps as part of an off-eBay sale to convince the seller to let it go for less. If the body is as dry as it seems in photos, this Torino wagon has lots of miles left before it retires from hauling duties.

I’ve owned allot of fords, and all but one was a wagon. From a 66 falcon, a 67 fairlane, and a few 68-71 ltd country squires. This would be a great car, and the green sets the tone.

Not a Ford man, but I like this year Torino and this here wagon especially. Even the 2-tone green effect is cool.

I really like this car, the dog dish hubcaps the slight patina and the double way to open the tailgate, the 351C is just a nice extra to me. Cool Find!!!

This is a GREAT find. I’ve always liked the Torino body style, and in a wagon…WITH a 351C! This car would make a great beach cruiser. For a moment, I almost thought about placing a bid. If I did get this car, I’d probably repaint the hood to match the rest of the car??? And with today’s painting systems, a little “new patina” could be added to the hood, to make it blend in with the rest of the car.

I love this thing. I agree with adding patina to the hood. I think I would also find a hide a way headlight grille and lose the bumper guards to finish the gt look. No new parts though. Keep the patina and just enjoy it. Then when I had to paint it go all out with grabber green paint, tinted glass, big and little 15″ torque thrusts and an altitude adjustment.

I like your thinking. Particularly, the idea of converting the front of the car to the GT package. What an eye catcher the car would be. This car would be sooo much fun to customize…

The polished wheels look good, but (I am Biased!) a set of Magnums IMO would really set it off…along w/ the hidden headlight front end!! :-)
