1973 Chevelle SS 454 Wagon: Fast Dad

chevellewagon454

If you read the car rags, the Cadillac CTS-V wagon might seem like the first time an automaker ever shoved a big engine into a wagon body – but you’d be wrong. In 1973, Chevy found a mere 200 buyers for a Chevelle wagon optioned with the big block 454. Why did they offer this engine? Who knows, but with 245 bhp under your right foot, getting to the drive-in movie was more fun than ever before. I’d love to own this in-progress example found here on craigslist in Missouri by Barn Finds reader Olaf E, even though it’s a long way from done. The seller claims mechanically the wagon is excellent, and there’s no major damage to the body. There’s some good parts included too, like a near-crack free dash. While you’ll have your work cut out for you, I think it’s totally worth it to bring this fast wagon back to life.

Lots of work, but a sleeper of a family truckster. Weren’t those early ’70’s bumpers ugly!

I really like it, and if it wasn’t so far away, I would take a serious look at it. As for the bumpers, anything in chrome beats body color plastic covers.

Only about 40 miles from me but not interested, I’m not a fan of these wagons no matter the motor, yes those bumpers suck but you can blame Ralph Nader for them.

I think that is a crazy price, but I bet he gets it, on rarity alone. I have always liked big powerful station wagons.

Man, a local wrecking yard had one of those for a long time. They had screwed up and sent in the title to the state so it couldn’t be sold whole or registered for the street again. They ended up crushing it. Sad deal. They were idiots anyway, and decisions like that really drove it home.
