1975 Chevy K-5: Formal Blazer in Black

1975 Chevrolet K5 Blazer

Rather than baffle us with bull, the seller has chosen to tell us almost nothing about this black beauty. Is he attempting to entice us with mystery? Or do you think he’s just lazy? Would you like to see more photos of it? So would I! This is the only one. You’re lookin’ at it. Ah, the leisurely life of a flipper. It’s located in the town of Whitewater, Missouri, is this 1975 Chevy K-5 Blazer, and offered here on craigslist in St. Louis.

For whatever reason, this one hasn’t rusted completely in half yet.  I bothered to feature it because it has wheel well trim. I haven’t seen one here in the Midwest in 20 years that had enough metal left to attach those to. While this one isn’t rust-free, there’s enough of it still here that it looked interesting for the asking price of $1,200. It has a removable hardtop, and looks to be fairly complete, assembled and not wrecked, which is unusual for one of these in this price class.

The owner offers to sell us the engine separately, though the price for that is, like everything else, not mentioned. I believe these were available in either two or four wheel drive, and this one appears to be four wheel drive, making it even more fun and desirable. I like what I believe are the original wheels, and it’s nice to see it without the very inexpensive-looking aftermarket wheels that seem to always be rusty and are so commonly fitted to these seventies-era Chevy trucks. I like it. How about you?

That’s a true bargain, and won’t last long. Too far from me though.

Ok, after reading the ad, it comes sans engine, one can be bought for more money. May not be a “great deal” after all.

The 2wd ones are actually worth more money. Also this one is one of the more special ones because it’s a 75 it had a full removable top. This was the last year for that. The real problem with these trucks is the floor rot. I own one so I know. The floors rust much faster than the body itself. If it has body rust. More than likely it has decent sized holes in the floors. Overall great trucks and this one is a good price if it runs and drives.

You could still take the fiberglass top off these until 1990,

But the top is open above the driver up to and including ’75. ‘ 76 and after the roof above the driver is sheet metal, and that actually extends into ’91.

I agree, the 2wd K5’s are really rare and worth more money. The 4wd with the full convertible top has too much body flex (when four wheeling) and no rollover protection (but they look really cool). It doesn’t “run & drive”.

I hate the lazy flippers who can’t even take it off the trailer before they photo it!

If the driver happens to be backing up at 40mph and slams on the brakes, that rig will hold it just fine!

If it’s as solid as it appears and the floors are decent this is a deal. A small block crate engine is 1,200 to 3,500 and up depending on what you want. For less than three grand you could have a driver. These are fun to tear up and were used a lot in the snow so not a lot of them around. It looks to be a decent one to restore and values should go up on these with Bronco’s getting as expensive as they are.

I just fell in love with an 89 Suburban , 4 door, 4 speed manual , 4wd with a lot of body rust. Amazingly the frame and floors are solid . Probably due to the lifted suspension. Anyway, I’ve priced out the replacement body panels and rockers and discovered that the parts needed to restore these are very reasonable.

If this one isn’t too rusty in the frame it probably won’t cost that much to revive it…

Shame you’re not close to me. I’ve bought an 84 long wheel base that I’m using the running gear for my 71 GMC. I’ll be selling the body. No rust on it at all.

These fist couple of years were the ONLY ones with a full removable roof. No widow frames on the doors and sun over your head. From 76-91 the roof was redesigned and only the rear section removed, much like the broncos of the same era. A 4-wheel drive with ZERO roll-over protection might sound crazy (and it is), but it’s so dam cool for say cruising on the beaches in FL. I LOVE, I’d update the front end to a 90-91, drop an LS motor in it and enjoy…..For a total of $10k (including purchase) you’d have an awesome ride

It’s been reposted with 5 pics and price reduced to $1,000. Needs front floor boards, rockers and rust repair on the top of the passenger rear quarter. No motor, no mention of trans and transfer case?? It’s 4 wheel drive. Here’s the link to the new Craigslist ad http://stlouis.craigslist.org/cto/5395588846.html

I would be afraid of this thing, there was areas that liked to rust bad on them other than the floor pans. If somebody ran it a lot without the top on it, the weather seals would become rotten. Then during the cold winter months of Missouri they would cause rust to form with the seal area. The only good thing I could think of is Whitewater is located near the Boothill and the winter there are not always that bad, but you have a lot of sandy farm land and that stuff gets everywhere which would not be good if you don’t clean it out before putting the top back on. How you ask do I know this. My Dad owned a 78, and it rusted bad. The final solution was to repair the rust and seal the top back on it and never take it off from then on out.
