Cheap 1976 Pontiac Trans Am 455 4-Speed Project

It is rusty, no engine and no interior salvageable interior parts but this 1976 Pontiac Trans Am left the factory as a Code 19 black WS4 Trans Am with the L75 455 cubic inch V8 engine. The seller is only asking $1,200 and says that he or she is firm on the price. The Trans Am is located in Llano, Texas west of Austin and is listed here on Facebook Marketplace. Since it has been for sale for 10 weeks, maybe there is some room for negotiation. Trans Am production jumped in 1976 to 46,704 from 27,274 in 1975.

Once again, buyers had two engine options available. The base engine was the L78 400 cubic inch V8 (Z code), rated at 185 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. This engine was available with either an automatic transmission or a 4-speed transmission. The optional engine was the L75 455 cubic inch V8 (W code), which was rated at 200 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque.  While this car does not have an engine, the VIN designates it as a W code 455 from the factory which was only available with a 4-speed transmission. There were actually fewer 4-speed L78 400 equipped Trans Ams built (5,424) than 4 speed L75 455 equipped Trans Ams (7,528) in 1976.

The interior shows that the car was originally a black vinyl deluxe interior. The dash is either faded or was replaced. Yes, that is sunlight reflecting off the dirt as the floor boards are toast. The car boasts a rear console which is rare. A careful inspection of the frame and undercarriage is necessary to see if this car is salvageable and restorable. It is hard to tell what other options came on this car other than air conditioning.

The body is surprisingly solid and rides of aftermarket wheels and old tires. The exhaust tips are still in place. All 455 cid V8 equipped cars came with a 3.23:1 rear end ratio. The seller states the condition of the car including the rusty cowl, floors and trunk. Is this car rare enough for a devoted enthusiast to put back together?
