While most of you are familiar with the idea of an Indy 500 (or other famous race) Pace Car and the corresponding replicas, you may not be aware that frequently there is a “Official Truck” of the races as well. Sometimes replicas of those trucks are also sold, and that was the case in 1993 when 1,534 replica official trucks were produced by Chevrolet. This clean looking one is advertised for sale here on craigslist. It’s located in Rock Falls, Illinois and the seller’s asking price is $5,500.
The seller describes this 108,612 mile truck as being in “pretty nice shape for a 25 year old truck but NOT perfect.” While I’m sure defects will show up upon close examination, the truck looks really nice! I took a look for replacement decals in case they were needed, and none of the usual suppliers carry a set that I could find. The colors are really eye-catching so I hope these are in good shape!
While the official truck package was just a cosmetic one, the base truck underneath was pretty good anyway. 74,413 CK10s found homes that year according to this communication from the GM Heritage Center.
I’m still trying to find something wrong with the interior in these pictures. I’m thinking that the seller may have undersold it in the description? Regardless, I think this is this is a lot of truck for the price!
Naturally, there’s a small block 5.7 liter (350 cubic inch) V8 under the hood. Gee, it looks nice! Again, I’m seeing a lot of truck for $5,500 — do you agree? And thanks ever so much to reader Keith E. for sending us this tip!
Pace truck or not, it looks like a good deal on a truck.
I’ve got a K5 Blazer with those seats. The seats themselves are confortable, the armrests… not so much.
The front air dam with fog lights is suppose to be black, instead of white. Someone also added and painted the ground effects on the sides and rear white, which also weren’t factory. Keep in mind the Indy 500 truck was just an appearance package that cost $605 back in 1993. However it looks like a nice truck! $5,500 seems pretty reasonable.
Thanks for pointing that out! I thought something wasn’t quite stock- hadn’t seen one of these in years. The ground effects would be more effective with a 2”/4” drop. Maybe some different wheels? Seems like a good deal if there’s no corrosion
OK, show of hands (or thumbs), everyone who glanced at the picture and expected a sub-100-mile garage queen with a 45K asking price, and was surprised by its condition, price and the honesty of the listing.
Tim, that’s exactly what I thought when I first saw the listing… :-)
I had a die-cast one of these I use to push around the sandbox. That’s the best I’ve got.
Appears to be a nice truck for the money. The interior looks perfect. However Illinois + winter + salt = you may need to budget for replacement rear wheel arches.
Since this is an official truck, will you be able to breeze through track security?
Ahhhh, tacky!
Not for me
My cousin bought one of these along with the matching Camaro pace model brand new from the dealer in ’93. He never drove them. Bought them primarily for investment. He kept them for several years but couldn’t afford both payments and sold them both.
Regardless of year, make & model, it would be hard to go wrong, given it’s as clean as it looks at that price ! Love the serviceability of the venerable 5.7 SBC.
Yes, it looks official enough for vintage days here at Mid-Ohio to be welcome in the circle, and pace the course !
Here’s an original one, tired and wore out, in Jax Fla. at a thrift store……
How sad looking. I was just in Jax yesterday 👍🏽
Looks like different seats in this and the one for sale.
Carpet in the one for sale looks a little quirky too.
Yes they are different- I think the buckets were an option? Or maybe the seats were changed along with the carpet- I noticed the ill-fitment around the transmission hump also.
