This 1967 Ford Mustang GTA has been a project car between two brothers for more than 20 years, but now they are ready to pass it on to someone else. Originally a big-block 390 V-8 car, it now has a 302 small block and a C4 automatic transmission in place. It’s located in Peoria, Arizona, and is for sale here on eBay where bidding is low but has not yet met reserve. The rear of the car is rusty, although parts of the the front and the floor have already been repaired. The seller also notes that a manual rack and pinion steering mechanism has been installed. I’m guessing the seller now regrets losing track of the original engine and C6 transmission as big-block Mustangs are worth quite a bit more than small-block ones. Would you try to find an appropriate big block engine and suitable transmission, or would you continue down the road the seller has with the small block that comes with the car?

Seller claims that he lost the 390 engine and trans while moving many times but held on to the 302/C4 and all the other loose parts ??
Neat car, really should have the correct 390/C-6 put back in it even if not the original goods, but unfortunately this project will be upside down long before it’s finished.

What price range is a restored 67 GTA worth. For that matere what is a 67 GTA unrestored and running worth?
“average retail” on NADA with the lowest HP 390 is $36,110 (390 adds 15%).

you don’t.
i would wager that it was used in a different project, or swapped for something else – maybe the 302 + manual?, or someone relieved him of it.
too many potential stories, not enough time or inclination to follow up and definitely overpriced at this point. glws.
does it seem odd that there is so much rust for an az car? likely not az from the beginning.

Twenty years and this is as far as they got ??? I remodeled my house while doing our Mach1 in 5 years by myself !!! They lost interest and started selling parts which the 390 and C6 were the first to go.

I agree.. How do you “lose” an engine and transmission??? The new owner has a lot to do on this one.. and it will be worth it..
I remember, one day back in the ’80s, reading the classified ads in the New Orleans paper and seeing an ad for a ’67 Mustang GT390 for $500. Oh, my kingdom for a time machine!
If this is really a GT390, then by all means plant a 390/C6 back into it. 302 Mustangs are a dime a dozen.
