20 Years Outside: 1978 Pontiac Trans Am

ta

This 1978 Pontiac Trans Am has spent it’s entire life in Arkansas. Despite having being stored outside for 20 years, it’s in surprisingly solid shape. The seller has made it start and run, but needs it’s brakes bled to do anything more than drive onto a trailer (and I wouldn’t trust those tires over 5 mph anyway). The trunk floor is rusty due to leakage, the windshield is cracked, and there are some soft spots on the floor. On the positive side, the car is complete, original and the air conditioning system still has pressure after all these years. The build sheet is included and all the numbers match. The car is located in Gentry, Arkansas, and is advertised here on eBay, where bidding is up to just over $4,000 and there is no reserve. Feel like playing “The Bandit?” Let us know in the comments!

Nice patina . . . NOT! Or as the kids say these days: “Sick!”
Or you could just mask of the bird, give it a quick scotchbrite and take it to Scheibe!

I cannot imagine it will go much higher. It’s a sheep in wolves clothing.

It is the higher horse car, t/a 6.6l decal on shaker instead of 6.6l. But otherwise a nothing car. Being a lake Erie guy I see this as a decent project. Body is basically there. Needs some patches in the floors and trunk but that’s no biggie. Interior would be the most expensive part for me. I do all my own wrenching and mud slinging and paint so that’s free labor. Lol but I do agree it is too high a price even for a do it yourself kind of guy. My buddy bought a restored 78 gold s.E. t=top loaded a few years ago for 10k. And that’s a head turning driver with a possibility of future value.

NOPE, I would be more interested in that 70 El Camino if it is a true SS car.

BREAKER BREAKER this is the Bandit – you out there Snowman?
    :-)
There is a reason that almost all of these T/As from that era keep going up – Smokey and the Bandit is still a cult classic.
