27k Mile 1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1

This 1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1 looks pretty amazing and is claimed to have only 27,544 miles on the odometer. As a bonus, the car has spent its whole life in Los Angeles, California which means it should be pretty solid and not riddled with rust. The Mustang Mach 1 is listed for sale here on eBay and there are less than 2 days remaining in the auction. The car only has three bids so far with the highest bid reaching $15,000. The reserve has not been met.

There are no full pictures of the interior but what stands out the most is the 4-speed shifter. The interior appears to be brown which does not really match the black striping on the exterior of the Mustang Mach 1. The dash is cracked and the interior looks to be sun-faded and brittle in places. The Mustang does have air conditioning which was not common in the early 1970s with a manually shifted car.

The Mach 1 is still equipped with its original 351 cubic inch Cleveland V8 engine and four barrel carburetor which was recently rebuilt. This was the most powerful engine available in Mach 1’s in 1973. Ford rated the 351 Cleveland motor at 266 horsepower and 301 lb ft of torque in 1973 when it was fed through a four barrel carburetor. It was also available with a 2 barrel carburetor. The base engine in the Mustang Mach 1 was the 302 cubic inch V8 engine and it only came with a 2 barrel carburetor.

The seller states that the Mustang Mach 1 just recently received new brakes and both ignition and fuel system work was also completed. The car is said to start up and run just fine. The gold and black stripe combination looks unique. Based on the condition of the engine compartment, I think some people will question the claim of the low mileage. Regardless, it is a nice looking car, even it came at the end of the muscle car era.

I believe that interior color is called ginger. Ordered to keep car cooler and the A/C doesn’t have to work as hard. I don’t mind it – I’m focused on the 4 speed!

What is that control under the lighter for? Looks like it says “heater” and “delay”.

Delay, looks like a reverb for the radio.

      Boatman,

That switch is an aftermarket control for a “Heathkit” brand reverb amp for the rear seat speaker. It had an adjustable delay built into the amplifier, giving it a “Concert Hall Sound” [Heathkit advertising slogan], I know, because I still have the Heathkit paperwork from the reverb I built in 1969, for my 1966 Plymouth Sport Fury Convertible.

Heath Electronics offered various electronic devices in kit form. I built many different kits back in the 1960s – 70s, even built my family a big 25″ console color TV in 1968, we were the first house on the block to have a color TV!

We were a big Heathkit family… Turned me on to be an engineer for Ford

Gotta like that inviting “T” handled Hurst shifter, it really is the most interesting part of the whole interior, not a bad color combination as we all know these weren’t all yellow and black.
Although engine work has been performed you’d never know it by the looks of things. The k mart air cleaner only heightens the ugliness around it. Still a great engine though.
The last of any performance Ford product from that era, not seen on these shores again until ’82 with the hot for the time 5.0 GT Mustang. Nearly a decade later.

Shiny new air cleaner and coil..why not spray the whole engine compartment with some super clean and hose it off..as it stands this looks like 2 different cars..that under hood shot ain’t helping the sale

I was thinking that’s an awful dirty motor for saying it’s been recently rebuilt.

If it didn’t have that hood or side stripes, i would add Eleanor stripes …

I am sorry… I am having a hard time believing the mileage of 27,000 plus. Outside tells one story. Inside another. Those cracks on the dash and armrest area. And can’t forget the filthy engine compartment. Really !!! We seen plenty of people trying to get away with mileage , not a clone etc. Maybe I am wrong on this one. 🙄

My first car was this one in the 1972 version. The color was called
“Golden Glow”. To this day I probably haven’t seen but a few in that color. Loved that car.
