2nd Owner Sale: 1958 Chevrolet Apache

The market for vintage American pickups seems to be picking up. As I researched the potential value of the 1955 Chevy pickup we recently listed an a Barn Finds Exclusive, many of the Chevy message boards seem to support that these old working rigs are rising steadily in the desirability column. This 1958 Chevy Apache pickup here on eBay is a claimed two-owner vehicle listed with a $10,000 Buy-It-Now.

The Chevy seen here offers few details on the truck’s condition, aside from highlighting that they are the second owners and that it has rust. That’s a shame, as usually, these California rigs don’t suffer from the same corrosion ailments we see out east. The body at least looks highly original, with consistent paint down the sides and evenly faded on the top surfaces.

The old-school California black plates are a treat, and the original tailgate looks quite sound. The body shows no obvious signs of damage, but more pictures of the rust the seller speaks of would be helpful. It’s not surprising trucks of this “Task Force” era are picking up in value when you consider how well the design has aged, and how novel features like the wraparound windshield were at the time.

Here’s the ’55 I referenced earlier that we’ve listed as an Exclusive. It’s a running, driving truck with fresh brakes and a clean Georgia title. Personally, this era of vintage Chevy and GMC pickups looks better and better to me all the time, both as an investment and a rewarding project that can either be kept in driver quality condition or fully restored, with strong enough values to help you not outstrip your investment in the truck. Give me a yell if the ’55 wets your whistle!

10000 dollars I can find a lot better example then this. It would take 5000 dollars to make this a 10000 dollar truck.

This looks like a good project to take on. Too bad the ad’s been pulled so further investigation will be impossible. I have to say that the asking price is beyond my budget so it would have to go to someone else anyway. A lot of these in the Chinook Belt. That shade of green was also a common color. I can remember a couple of nearly identical trucks along the road to our place alone. I didn’t like the color when I was a kid but I don’t mind it now. Unfortunately my wife hates any shade of green so there would be little chance that I’d paint a project like this in seasick green…

Sale has already ended so someone bought it, and likely for $10,000.
Looks like a pretty solid example, for it’s age. Nice vintage Bardin rear bumper too. Someone has a good project.

That is a nice truck , but it has a 57 grill and a 55 hood so stuff has been changed.

With all due respect, Ross is wrong. That truck has a 58 Grill and a 58 hood.

I believe ross was not speaking of the yellowish 1958 truck. The blue truck picture down in the article is the one referred to with the ’57 grille and a ’55 hood. ’57 hoods had the two ridges running front to back. As you can see in the photo, this blue truck’s hood has no ridges. Therefore, the ’57 grille doesn’t match the ’55 hood.

It was a reference to the pictured blue truck which has a ’57 grill. The hood is a harder ID because the only difference between a ’55 and ’56 hood, as far as I know, is the length of the hood emblem. “55’s were short, 56’s where longer.

    As for the writers commentary
“The body shows no obvious signs of damage “..
What about that nice dent,in the Driver’s side door?. In plain view- in second picture!. Can be pulled or massaged out I’m sure. But perhaps the writer didnt notice that “crease”..in the door at time of his submission of this find ?.
Otherwise” nice truck/ or it could be? Not me but someone would refresh this ,with as much originality as possible,I’d hope
