The GM A-Body cars from the late 1960s and early 1970s were extremely popular when new and have remained that way today with collectors. This 1970 Chevelle Malibu is a great example of a survivor with a claimed original 60k miles. It can be found for sale here on eBay in Pittsburg, Kansas. Bidding at the time of writing is just over $15,000 with the reserve not yet met.
The Chevelle was introduced as a new mid-size model in 1964, serving as a bridge between the compact Chevy II/Nova and the full-size Impala. The second generation Chevelle was launched in 1968, and in 1970 it received a minor facelift that added a bit more of a boxy look to the shape. A total of 7 body styles were available, ranging from the El Camino to the coupe seen here. The body on this particular example appears to be in overall very good shape. There are a few minor dents underneath the rear valence, and it looks like a few small areas of rust in the trunk pan, but otherwise I didn’t see any obvious areas of concern. Even the faded hood looks like it’ll shine up with some elbow grease. One thing potential buyers will definitely want to investigate is the vinyl roof. Those were water traps and can easily lead to rust along the lower trim and around the windows.
According to the badge on the front fenders, this Chevelle is equipped with the 307 cubic inch engine, putting out 200 horsepower. It would have come from the factory with a 2-barrel Rochester carburetor, but this has a what appears to be an Edelbrock 1406 4-barrel carb installed recently. Another thing this Chevelle has is factory A/C! That’s a huge bonus, although no word on whether it works or not. Looking at the pictures of the engine bay, everything looks to be complete and present, and the seller says the engine runs “like new.”
The interior is probably the place that needs the most attention, though it’s not bad overall. New seat covers and carpet, plus some deep cleaning, might be all it needs. While the bucket seats and console would be nice to have instead of a bench, you can tell it’s not original to the car based off the wrong color console, as well as the fact that it has the console-mounted shift gate even though this car has a column-mounted automatic shifter. I also see an aftermarket gauge cluster under the dash. The seller mentions several times in the listing that this car is all-original and that everything on it comes from the factory. The console and seats, gauges, carburetor, and perhaps even the wheels tell us that’s not quite true, and it also makes me question the claim of only 60,000 miles instead of 160,000 miles. Either way, this car has a lot of potential and shouldn’t need much work for its new owner to enjoy it.
One owner, who “purchased this a few years ago”. Funny.
The console would go and I’d try to find a bench seat as well.
Dishonesty or ignorance, which is worse? Too bad as it seems like a decent car.
Or the third option, dishonestly mixed with ignorance.

Seems like another attempt at poor vision with questionable integrity. At it’s core it looks like a great base Malibu.
Manual drum brakes – was that common on base Chevelles?
Yes as was base Novas
my 1970 had drums front and back and butter nut yellow was the color
I see another “all-original” SS 454 in it’s future.
My 1970 was butter nut yellow with a 307 with a 2 barrel carter and drum breaks front and back with power assist brakes
