For $17,900, you’d be hard pressed to find a better mix of performance and exclusivity than this 1997 Chevrolet Camaro SS 30th Anniversary Edition with the SLP package. This one is made even better for having the rare six-speed manual, and features the optional white leather interior. The mileage is low at just 48,000, and the seller has owned it for the last 12 years. It’s up for grabs to make room for a new project, and is listed here on craigslist in Martinsville, New Jersey.
The SLP option should get your attention here, as it added some performance goodies to the already formidable Z28 straight from the factory. A cold air intake system, upgraded exhaust, limited slip differential with aluminum rear cover, and the impressive Bilstein Level II Performance Suspension setup made the 30th Anniversary model a true all-rounder, boosted further by the serious exclusivity factor: one of 4,533 anniversary models, and one of just 957 with the SLP goodies.
The seller has clearly maintained this example to a high degree, as the cosmetic condition is quite impressive. You could get one of these commemorative Camaros with a cloth houndstooth interior – a nice throwback to the original upholstery designs – or the upgraded white leather buckets seen here. While I’m sure it’s a chore to clean, the bright surfaces liven up the typically dark and dreary GM interiors of the middle 90s.
All factory stickers remain in place along the radiator support, and the seller confirms there are no accidents in its history file. The Camaro does come with T-tops, which effectively puts this Camaro into the ranks of being optioned the way God intended. It seems to me the 30th Anniversary models haven’t exactly caught fire yet in the collector car market despite giving enthusiasts everything they could possibly want in a Camaro; will prices start moving higher for this limited edition model?
Looks to a very nice original low mileage Camaro SS with all the right options at a very good price you can drive today. Apparently a good example of what you can buy if you’re not stuck on a particular year, make or model of car. As one commenter said about another car here recently, if I had the money, I wouldn’t be writing this, I’d already be my way to check it out and probably buy it.
The non leather interior in these 30th anniversary cars was actually cooler, the insert got a retro houndstooth cloth pattern like a 1969.
There was an even rarer SLP Camaro from 96-97 that used left over LT4 engines from the Grand Sport Corvette.

This one appears to be equipped with the 310 hp ram air version of the LT1, the last year of this engine.
Many prefer the LT1 over the LS1 in these cars, myself included. Reverse flow cooling. Torquey, responsive, and huge fun to drive. Fantastic soundtrack. Virtually bulletproof other than the often lamented Optispark, which is easily rectified.
Very nicely equipped, this one deserves a closer look for sure.
I’ve had several LT1 equipped cars and all were dependable. I currently own a 1994 Z28 LT1 convertible with only 12k original miles in original mint stock condition. Bought it out of Lagrange Texas for the bargain price of $9,200.00!
I love 4th-Gen SS’s, but the white-and-orange paint job on the anniversary edition is a cop magnet. I have a Sebring Silver ’97 SS 6-speed T-top (one of 183 in that combo) that I bought from the original owner 18 years ago — it had 42k on it then, just turned 61k now. I MUCH prefer the LT1; it both sounds and feels the way a fast car should. Oh, and it was a 50th birthday present to myself!
I’ve been into Muscle Cars since they came out. I’m not a mechanic at all, but I appreciate something that grabs your attention, not the same old Euro Silver/Gray that was around on most everything for 15 years! I’m getting back in with more of a driver, fairly stock 2006 GTO. Pretty sweet car. I looked at a ton of the ’90’s to 2002 Camaros and Trans Ams. These cars are starting to appeal to me. OLD AGE. Beautiful Camaro: SLP to boot! A lot like Firehawk Firebirds! These cars are sweet looking and will fly. Much more comfortable, reliable, and , faster, than most of originals, and almost as rare and good looking! Just sayin’…
