This Code 69 Brentwood Brown 1977 Pontiac Trans Am is still for sale and was sent to us by Curvette. The dealer listed it at $18,900 last month and has lowered the price to $16,900. That still may be a little steep considering its condition. This Trans Am is listed here on Craigslist. It is located in the Portland, Oregon area. This Trans Am represents the first year that brown was offered as a color for the Trans Am. I have a 1978 Code 69 Chesterfield Brown Trans Am which is a different hue of brown (more copper). I don’t know why but I like brown Trans Ams. This car is certainly a project and looks like it has been stored outside for much of its life.

Like the exterior, the engine compartment is dirty and dusty. The seller states that the car has a binder full of receipts. You may end up with a second binder if you decide to restore this car to factory. Under the hood is Pontiac’s top performing engine in 1977. The base engine in the Trans Am was the L78 400 cubic inch V8 that was rated at 180 horsepower but had over 300 lb ft of torque. California Trans Am received the Oldsmobile 403 cubic inch V8 which was rated slightly higher at 185 hp and came only with an automatic transmission. The Olds engine met California’s tougher emission regulations. As mentioned, this car has the Pontiac W72 400 cubic inch V8 which was rated at 200 horsepower and came from the factory with chrome valve covers and 6X heads.

The interior looks stock except for the seats have been upholstered with non factory material. The interior actually looks pretty good compared to the rest of the car. The carpet looks new but the dash is missing a radio. The factory 4 speed shifter is prominent in the console. The seller states that the odometer has rolled over and the car has 144k miles on it. There are not too many other options on this Trans Am. A buyer in 1977 could opt for T-Tops, air conditioning, power windows, tilt steering and many more creature comforts.

The driver rear quarter looks like it has been replaced or repaired. The rear tires on this Trans Am are super wide and stick out of the fenders. The car rides on aftermarket chrome wheels. This car could make a good driver and the 4 speed makes it a lot of fun to drive.

Still for sale, I wonder what it will eventually bring.
In 1977, a guy with a brand new brown TA with W72 4 speed wanted to trade me even up for my 56,000 mile 1971 454 Corvette. I didnt go through with it.
4 Speed is a big bonus. Still over priced. I’m thinking $9,000? There’s a brown one local to me with an automatic, and he wants $18,000, been for sale for 3 years
A pretty steep price for a car you have to throw a ton of cash at a paint job right away, and if you are going to ask top dollar, Clean up that engine bay ! All that being said, for the right price, I would totally rock this ride !
