42,000 Miles From New: 1987 Toyota Land Cruiser

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

While FJ60 Land Cruisers are generally long-lived, they remain somewhat elusive to find in mint condition. This 42,000-mile example is the outlier, somehow living an existence that didn’t see the mileage pile up over time. Strictly a southern vehicle, it also remains in excellent condition with no rust. The Land Cruiser is an investment-grade vehicle, in my opinion, but bidding remains light at just $13,500 here on eBay with just over a day left in the auction.

I’m sure the bidding action will spike quite a bit, as you simply don’t see them in this kind of condition. The body shows no evidence of major damage or corrosion, and the tail light lenses and glass still shine like new. The chrome tailgate strip, which frequently rots out, appears mint as well. After beginning its life in Tennessee and Missouri, the Land Cruiser now resides in the retirement haven of Pompano Beach, Florida.  As an ideal surf wagon, perhaps it should stay there.

Then again, this example is so nice that I doubt you’d throw your surfboards in the back. Really, I can’t even imagine getting in here with wet feet, as Land Cruisers rarely remain this well preserved inside. The dash shows no signs of cracking and it even appears to retain its original radio. The seller has added larger tires and replaced the windshield with OEM glass. Other tweaks are minimal and reflect the highly preserved status of this FJ60.

With such low mileage, this Land Cruiser has many years of crawling and cruising left to give. The market for a used Land Cruiser is vast, as they remain popular in almost every major market. The seller notes that the A/C still works and he performed an “…oil change and replacement of the radiator and thermostat.” This checks the boxes for me, as these are basic must-do maintenance items when playing with a truck sporting such low mileage. Where do you think the bidding will end up at?

Is the World Wide Web is asleep at the mouse here? Last year for a manual, original mileage, can’t-kill-it-six, and clearly in mint condition! A true unicorn find! My uncle had this exact model and configuration and it was, IMO, the zenith for the Land Cruiser. I exhausted the internet looking for a decent one of these to purchase and gave up. Fantastic find. I’ll be interesting to see what this rings-out at.

That’s because “the listing is no longer available”. If you click on the word “listing” it’ll take you to the auction that already ended.

7 days, 19 bidders and the auction ends at $15.9k, short of whatever the reserve was. Real buyers (the last two bidders) have spoken……..

Jeff posted this listing an hour ago saying, “with just over a day left in the auction.” WHAT?? This auction ended yesterday morning!

Jeff says “no rust”……..did you see the undercarriage pics?? A little rough for only having 42k in my opinion.

Now THESE were Land Cruisers. Big and square, with plenty of room and ground clearance. Best of all, nobody gave a $h!t about aerodynamics.

Regarding rust…this LC is over 30 years old and resides in Fla. I’m not surprised to see it. They’re rarely found in this condition, so if one is seriously looking, you may have found yours.

Seems funny to see the hand crank hole in the front like in picture 13. It’s a very cool thing but it’s so wild to envision doing that on a 1987. Lol

Nothing but respect for these. I took a two-week road trip through Yemen in one just like this. Through the desert, over sand dunes, racing down the highway at 90 mph with military escort to avoid the local troublemakers, up the sandy coast with two wheels in the Red Sea. Thing was absolutely unstoppable.

I went to see this truck a couple days ago, as it looked so nice and is local to me. It turned out to be totally amazing, so I bought it. Picked it up today and am very pleased . Thank you Barn Finds.
