428 SCJ/4-Speed: 1969 Mustang Mach 1

1969 Mustang Mach 1

This isn’t just any old Mustang. It is a factory 428 Super Cobra Jet car! Throw in a close-ratio 4-speed, Traction-Lok rear end, and some Candy Apple Red paint and you have a recipe for fun. The seller of this Pony project claims that they purchased it from the original owners about 3 years ago. They ended up pulling the engine at some point and never got around to putting it back in. I spotted some rust so it looks like this beast may need a full restoration before it’s going to do any burnouts. Take a look here on eBay and let us know what you think it’s worth. It’s located in Midland, Texas and the auction ends in less than 24 hours.

It needs a full restore, so I don’t think it should go over $20k https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/classicmustang/info

I have little patience for sellers who can’t be bothered with rotating a picture! eBay has a very simple picture adding program that includes a rotation option. If the seller can’t figure that out; it might be time to unplug and get off the internet.
Those quarter panels belong in church… cuz they’re so holey! I love ’69 Mustangs, I just wish I had pockets deep enough to buy one. :)

I would also say tops 20K with work needed to restore to original and if he is not lying and drivetrain is correct to car and rebuilt this could be a super nice car as 69’s are coveted as well as SCJ’s then add in the 4 speed with 3:91 Tac-Loc and you have a car worth some $$$, now if I bought and restored it I could not let it go, it’s the right drivetrain and the right color to keep for myself. I totally agree with Cassidy about lazy ignorant ebayers / craigslisters who can’t be bothered with taking and posting decent pictures that you don’t have to twist in to a pretzel to look at it. Come on I’m no genius but give me a break I’ll send my 13 year old grandson to do it for you for $100.

I agree generally with MikeW – I saw an original restorable ’69 Mach I 429 in better shape (that was DRIVEABLE even!) for $34k so I’m thinking $20k is about the top of the range for this rust-eaten pony!

If the first buyer had checked AM/FM radio instead of just AM on the order sheet, this would have been 1 of 3. As it is, its 1 of 22…. Too bad… LOL

And its a Rustang needing lots of metal repair. I’m thinking its already over its reasonable value at 17K+

no picture of the engine and from the sellers last comment it sounds as if the engine may not be original to the car. hopefully it is.

I know where there are three of these sitting. They are in limbo with the state of pa. The previous owner died with no heirs and a huge bill at a state run nursing home. All kinds of cool old Ford’s. 70 torino gt, 58 Ford 2Dr wagon, 78 ranchero gt, 57 Ford 2Dr wagon, 64-66 t-birds 57,8&9 Ford’s 64 falcon, 61-4 galaxies. All kinds of cool stuff just sitting now.

There were 4 bidders willing to pay over 25K for it with 2 bids of 26,500. Looks like it was a popular car. I hope the buyer isn’t too disappointed in the actual condition.

If its a SCJ, they better have the ‘right’ crank, pistons and rods and wrist pins to go with the block, as well as the oil cooler. Otherwise, you ‘re just winding up with a CJ motor

Otherwise, if its all there, I think it was worth the final number. Not too many 1969 MACH -1 SCJ 4 speeds left, and they are only going to go up in value.

In hs I had a ’70 Torino 429cj, the dif fm a scj was a solid lifter cam & intake/carb I think. Is it the same with a 428 block? Correct if wrong; isnt a 428 just a bored out 390? The 429 block was a whole diff monster, right?

correct me if i’m wrong (I’m a Chevy guy) but wasn’t the 428 just a “CJ” (Cobra Jet) and the 429 the motor designated “SCJ” (Super Cobra Jet)?
