43 Years Parked! Low-Mileage 1965 Chevrolet Corvette

This 1965 Chevrolet Corvette was said to have been parked in 1975 and the seller believes it has 32,000 actual miles! Found here on eBay with a buy-it-now price of $27,500, the car is currently located in McKinney, Texas. The ad states “recently discovered in South Texas where it has resided since new!”. Thanks goes to Scuderia for the tip!

The seller states the car was parked “due to an engine issue” but doesn’t specify what that issue is. It was certainly not an easy fix or you would think that the owner would have fixed a 10-year-old car. The ad says that the current state of the engine is unknown. Hopefully, it is rebuildable and able to remain in the car.

It’s pretty clear the car was stored in a leaky barn or somewhere that allowed a bit of weather and/or critters to get to it. You can see the glove box door has been taken off. The floor covering looks like it will need to be replaced. It is hard to tell exactly what parts are reusable or restorable.

This car looks pretty rough, but the seller describes it as a good candidate for restoration. The paint is said to not be original, but the ad says the top and interior are. There are several photos of the undercarriage. It looks rusty, but not too bad. Do you agree with the seller that this is a good candidate for restoration? Let us know.

Story sounds like BS. SBC were not that costly to repair. Sad to see this happen to any car. Hope some one will love it.

Nice the seller believes it only has 32,000 miles. I don’t

Why boast a ripped convertible top is original as a selling point? This car is overpriced by a lot. All Corvettes are good restoration candidates but the buyer will be way underwater at this price.

So buy it at say $25k. How much would you need to throw at to restore it?

    Serious question.

I would conservatively estimated at least 25k, if you are including a motor rebuild and doing the interior and cosmetic stuff yourself. Looks very original but also missing some stuff. Dash pad may be good hard to see. Being a non runner and a 3 speed I would say 18-20k maybe less due to the condition.

Yep I was thinking maybe $50k total and you’d have a nice car and not totally upside down on it.

Depends on a lot of things. What’s all wrong with it and how far do you want to go? Looks to be a pretty fair deal though.

The speedometer reads 32,000 and it was only on the road for 10’years, so why not give it a shot. If someone believes it, it’s more money in his pocket. However, the skeptic in me, makes me doubt the sellers overall, when I see them push something like that without verifiable documentation. They would be better of not bringing up the mileage especially when the cars overall condition makes the claim, even if correct, irrelevant.

At least it’s either a no reserve auction or has surpassed its reserve. That shines a better light in the owner. However, unsupported mileage claims are becoming a problem, a picture of a speedometer shouldn’t be accepted as proof by itself.

This may be a good choice for restomod creation if the birdcage is in good shape, which is doubtful.

Low-po motors, 3-speed manual & auto trans cars aren’t likely to be worth the investment to restore unless someone is attached to one for some reason.

It’s possible that this thing has only accrued 32k miles, convertibles usually aren’t daily driven & there’s no room for luggage or groceries, etc. But damn they sure were hard miles if true.

    Overpriced by at least $8k.

The appearance of this reminds me of when I’d get angry at one of my cars I’d park it under a tree and let the birds mete out punishment……….

Why a 3 spd? Dealer inventory model possibly? Ordered as showroom stock with few options just to see if there was an interest over a pick up truck?

A friend of mine said this about an original unmolested car he was considering. It is relevant here:

“I would expect that every piece of rubber and plastic is as fragile as an egg shell:
    Motor mounts = toast.
    Brake lines = Dust
    Transmission seals = leaking
    Shocks = seen better decades
Water Pump Seal = dried out
All Coolant hoses = waiting to crack
Trunk and door seals = took set 20 years ago…
    Speedometer Cable…??
Carb gaskets = De laminated leaking
Vinyl on seats = can’t wait to crack”

I imagine that’s just the start. However, I still restore vehicles because I enjoy it, not necessarily to make money. Hope the buyer has lots of fun with this one!

Clutch pedal missing, cooler lines running to auto trans, odometer showing 36,000 mi.

Another dream that turned into a nightmare now that this long-term owner OR whoever this re-seller is who acquired this Corvette let it sit with that all to familiar “I’m going to restore this Corvette one day” Syndrome!

Expect MANY MORE Corvettes and other “Collector” cars of the 1960’s-1970’s just like this POS to grace the Barnfind pages in the near and distant future!

There is at LEAST one Corvette in this condition a week that graces these pages now a days!

This car is not a survivor given the repaint and is not a candidate to be restored to original state given it’s a 3-speed. It could be a real nice resto-mod candidate if the bird cage is still good. Put an LS in it along with some nice wheels, paint, interior and a 5 speed manual and it could be a nice driver. All that could easily run $25,000 – $35,000 along with a $25,000 purchase price. You would have a real nice $40,000 car with $60,000 invested. I’ve been there but don’t want to go back again.

I Believe It’s More Like 132,000 Miles, 32,000 Not Accurate Due To The Condition Of The Under Part Of The Car Really Exposes The Amount Of Miles To This Car ,To Much Rust And Dk.

That fiberglass has had decades to absorb and exhale moisture in a questionable environment. I saw a Corvette like this receive a front, passenger side hit at about 25 MPH and the ‘glass (there was a loud crack, not unlike thunder) just seemed to explode. No one, thankfully, was injured.

Basically a good frame with a fair body. Wrong motor and trans and radiator. Dash and clock have been resprayed. Not worth restoring and way overpriced to restomod.no way mileage is correct.how fast can you run?

hey i have an original 3 speed shift knob for this car. i can finally sell this rare part. the frame looks pretty good, very savable to me. it just needs a spray coat of dexron III and that frame will show nice after 3 days of soaking. dont believe me find some rusted metal and coat it , after 3 days your not gonna believe it. hey its one of the rare 3 speeds, wonder what else is rare on this stingray. its probably worth $18,000.00 in parts alone.

The Dexron III can be used as a solvent? Thanks for the heads-up on that.

Looks to me like a rodeo cowboy hooked his single horse trailer to his new Corvette and with his rope horse toured the rodeo circuit for 132 thousand miles.

Odometer shows offset numbers… dead giveaway as to mileage..Auto trans lines been in there a while too… and no, we are not all that stupid… good luck..

The odometer actually shows 36000, not 32000. It’s a sloppily written listing and makes you wonder what the lister actually knows about this car. If you want to show a few photos of what a car looks like when it comes out of the barn, that’s fine. Then take the time to clean it up and post photos of the car at its best if you want to sell it for more.

After spending considerable time & money rebuilding pretty much the same car, I see many important factors for the new owner to think about, upon looking at the chassis photo, I cannot get a good look at the condition of it, there may be some rust through or not. Looking at the underside of the rear of the car, I see some sort of home made bracket under where the fuel tank is supposed to be, but cannot see if the tank is in place, and the spare tire tub is missing. From what I can see of the front of the car, I see some poor fiberglass repairs have been made to the hood & the original radiator is long gone and some half a**ed replacement is in its place, the original shroud is missing with the one sitting inside the car being incorrect, looking at the dash, it appears that this was a radio delete car & they drilled holes for a factory style radio, this car looks to be originally an automatic but the brake pedal is from a manual trans car, if you look at the carburator, notice the gas pedal linkage & the transmission kickdown linkage (automatics only), however the console suggests manual transmission, but where is the shifter? This car may be an important car that should be restored or just another no optioned piece of crap. The VIN shows a Dec. 11, 64 build date & the car body built by A.O.Smith, who was a subcontractor to GM as a Corvette body assembler. This car should have a close inspection & if it is determined to have been one of the more important cars built, it should be restored.

No 32k miles. Look at the drivers seat, not the bottom of the seat, the vertical backside, almost near the bottom. Look at the piping close to the bottom. Wear from the seatbelt rubbing it. Not at 32k miles would cause that. Sorry, unless this was ‘gifted’ to me or I had $10k sittin around to waste on a project like this, there’s no motivation. Motor rebuild. All cosmetic & functional under the hood, add another $4k. Paint, another $8k+ and then all the other costly stuff, weather stripping, new top, door panels, heck, glovebox door is a small fortune, console plate, all cosmetic inside the cab, way too much. A conservative $40k+ put into it to do it ‘right’. Tires, shocks, brakes, on & on. It’s a Pandora’s box car lol. And then, there’s the actual ‘history’. Parked because a cheap V8 build couldn’t afford? Or maybe sat in a flooded garage and left to dry out all those years. Thinking like that, I’d even be hesitant at $10k. But like they say in the car biz, there’s an _ _ _ for every seat! After all is done you got a 327 w/ a 3sp manual. Not so desirable. Some poor sap will be in over his head.
