454 Powered Dually: 1975 Chevrolet C30

I’ve written previously about how some classic vehicles have a sense of presence, but this 1975 Chevrolet C30 “Dually” probably takes that to the next level. It seamlessly combines spotless presentation with an almost imposing appearance, but its beauty is more than skin-deep. With a fresh big-block V8 under the hood, it should possess the performance to match its good looks. The owner has decided to sell, so his loss could be your gain. Located in Polk City, Florida, you will find the C30 listed for sale here on Barn Finds Classifieds or here on eBay. When you consider what is on offer, the owner’s asking price of $16,500 would seem very competitive.

It’s hard to know where to start with this C30 because it has so much to offer its next owner. It wears a striking shade of Blue paint, but it is prevented from looking cumbersome by the Silver stripe. The owner describes the paint as a good 8/10 or slightly better, but I don’t feel that this does the vehicle justice. Any potential defects are so small that they don’t show in the supplied photos. The panels are straight and true, while the C30 remains rust-free. The bed has a few minor dings, but someone has had the good sense to apply a spray-on bedliner like Linex to prevent further deterioration. The “454” decals on the rear fenders are adhesive, so if they aren’t to the buyer’s taste, they would be easy to remove. The trim and chrome shine as impressively as the paint, while the glass looks flawless. The Pickup rolls on a relatively new set of wheels and tires, and the rear “dually” setup should provide it with a reassuring grip on Planet Earth. The hood scoop is a clear indication that this Chevy might be anything but average under the hood.

Lifting the hood reveals what could make this C30 an excellent tow vehicle for the right buyer. The drivetrain consists of a 454ci big-block V8, a Turbo 400 automatic transmission, and power steering. The VIN indicates that this Pickup started life with a 454 under the hood, but it wasn’t this one. The owner states that this shiny new V8 and the transmission were professionally installed in 2020 and that the vehicle has accumulated a mere 3,000 miles since the work was completed. The original motor would’ve produced 230hp, but I would be willing to bet that this one pumps out significantly more. I can spot an upgraded intake and a fresh Holley carburetor, which will all help this classic’s cause. It looks like it has also received an MSD ignition, while an aluminum radiator should help to prevent meltdowns. The owner says that the C30 runs and drives well and that the brakes feel strong. There’s no evidence of fluid leaks, and the engine sounds tough breathing through its dual exhaust. You would have to think that if the buyer bolted a tow hitch to the back of this classic, it should have the strength to pull almost anything they could throw at it.

The interior of the Chevy is upholstered in Black, and it continues the theme of spotless presentation. Don’t let the slipcover on the seat fool you because the owner installed this to protect the upholstery from the Florida sun. Below that, the upholstery is said to be free from rips and problems. The dash looks excellent, as do the door trims and carpets. The owner has fitted a roof console, and this houses a pair of speakers for the stereo. The owner sent the radio off for repair, but it never found its way back to him. That is no great drama because he includes a replacement in the sale. Apart from the radio, the only other fault that he notes is that the window handles occasionally shake loose. This is a minor problem, and I’m sure that the buyer will devise an effective solution. The heat works as it should, as does the ice-cold air conditioning. Once again, this is an aspect of this Pickup that will need a bit of time but no money to bring to a perfect state of presentation.

Classic pickups continue to perform well in the market, and those with a big-block under the hood will always command attention. This one not only features that motor, but the owner has sunk more than $14,000 into it in the past couple of years to bring it to its current state of presentation and mechanical health. That’s a sobering figure because it means that his loss will be the buyer’s gain at the asking price. Considering that fact alone makes this 1973 C30 “Dually” worthy of a closer look.

    So I’m confused, is it a 75 or a 73?? Is it a Chevrolet or a GMC??

Why does it have a 10 series tag on body when it’s a c30 I believe.

It’s all beautifully done but personalized in a way that a lot of the mid-70sness has been wiped away, for instance the door panels and (cut up) side emblems are from an ’81-87. GM made a lot of minor detail changes year to year on these over a long run that are interchangeable like that, I suspect there are so many “whatever fits and works” rigs (with the semi-generic soft trim from LMC Truck thrown in) that a totally stock and year-correct original is what fetches top money these days.

And as usual when I see them in an ad I want to know what’s under the steering wheel and seat covers.

That being said if the mechanical work is to the standard of the paint job and chrome, I wouldn’t hesitate to drive it anywhere.

So it will pass everything, except a gas station and get a whopping 7-8 miles per gallon if you’re not towing and you keep your foot off the gas
