48K-Mile 1950 Chevrolet Fleetline Deluxe

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Sleek, beautiful, and slightly sinister doesn’t begin to describe this 48k-mile 1950 Chevrolet Fleetline Deluxe two-door sedan, sometimes called a fastback due to the sloping roof in the rear. Postwar designs were new in 1949 and the Deluxe 2100 came in several body styles and two series. This black beauty can be found posted here on craigslist in Orchard Park, New York, and the seller is asking $10,750. Here is the original listing and thanks to T.J. for sending in this tip!

Chevrolet offered both a sloping rear deck model, the Fleetline, and a more-upright design called the Styleline. I can’t believe that this gorgeous, original-spec car has made it this many decades without being chopped and otherwise resto-modded to death. I hope it can somehow make it through the next few owners and then make its way to a museum somewhere. Original or original-spec cars are becoming a rarity these days with (fake) TV reality shows chopping and sawing on everything with two doors. Hagerty is at $18,800 for a #3 good condition car so this one is an absolute drop-everything-and-buy-it-NOW steal.

The Fleetline Deluxe series came in a two-door sedan and a four-door sedan. The Styleline Deluxe series offered both two-door and four-door sedans, a four-door wagon, a two-door convertible, a two-door sport coupe, and new for 1950, the two-door-hardtop Styleline Bel Air. There was also a Special series below the Deluxe models with six body styles, including a two-door Business Coupe. This Fleetline Deluxe appears to be in really nice condition but there are only four photos in the listing so it’s hard to tell. Those four photos show what seems like a very nice car. The seller says that this is a southern car and they have owned it for the last decade or so.

This car is wearing all or most of its original paint which is amazing after this many decades. They say that the interior is also original and it looks beautiful to me. They don’t show the engine, sadly, or even mention what it is but it should be Chevrolet’s 216.5 cubic-inch inline-six Thrift-Master which would have had 85-hp and 170 lb-ft of torque. New for 1950 was also the two-speed Powerglide transmission which would have been offered with the bigger 235-six, but this car has a three-speed manual. The seller says that it has 48,000 miles and runs and drives great. Would you keep this Chevy original or modify it?

Oh my, keep it as is! It looks like it’s 1954 and it’s in the driveway.
A steal if it’s all real.

Keep it as it is and if you do ANYTHING to it that deviates it from its original configuration you should suffer the same procedure. If doing deleterious deeds is your intent you should be denied the honor of owning such a treasure.

By this time the 216 engine should have a whopping 92 horsepower.

Dad had a 52 Fleetline which was very hot in the back seat. I don’t remember if the back windows rolled down or not, but I have hated fastbacks since I was a kid.

This car brings back memories for me. I was 13 and my cousin let me drive his 50 Chevy on a closed parking lot. It took a while to figure out the clutch, but I had fun!

A buddy of mine sold me his Dad’s 50 chevy two door coupe for a twelve pak. three on the tree , a blazeing six cylinder. I bought three cans of baby blue krylon and rattlecanned the entire car with
that hiddious blue. Ran great especially running over mailboxes, and knocking over outhouses on the fly. I think it eventually ended up in blazzing glory crashing down a lonesome southern california canyon. I know, we bad, things you could get away with in the sixties, and live to tell about it. I know nothing.LOL’d

Hard to believe the seller has that low of an “opinion of value” of his own vehicle, especially this style and fairly rare these days. Beauty of a car..

That’s really a neat old survivor. I would drive it and enjoy it. The world has enough “Richard Rawlings” on TV destroying old cars.

We had one of these in the early 60’s. We called it the 49er because, well, it was a ‘49. My dad bought it for $100, drove it to work a few years and sold it for $90. We (at least I) really liked the car, but Dad bought a ‘61 Lark IV for the improved gas mileage since his commute could be pretty long.

This is a car that is worth more than the 68 Mercury Cougar 500. This car runs and drives and looks great. Too bad there are not more like this seller who offer a decent car at a decent price that reflects value for price asked!!!

George, not sure of you read my comment, but If you did, I do agree with you 100 percent. I do believe a good fair price is rare these days, but I just felt the offered price was just tooooo good to believe this ad is or was real. I should have checked, but then I would have dragged a trailer to Buffalo only to find it wasn’t there! I would love to hear from the buyer if they found it on Barn Finds
