$6,000 C Code: 1967 Ford Mustang

Despite some misgivings over the cosmetic and mechanical condition of my recently acquired XT6 project, I do try and remind myself (often) that it’s rare to find an original owner car. This 1967 Ford Mustang here on craigslist is said to be a one-owner car equipped with the 289 V8 and a manual transmission – and if the low rust claim holds up, $6K seems like a great price.

What’s almost a guarantee is that the current seller is technically the second “owner” but he sure as heck isn’t going to register a true one-owner car in his name. Despite this, even if he bought it from the original owner, the before and after picture of it washed seem to reveal a car that doesn’t need much work to return to form. Plus, it’s a C-Code car and the original wheels are included.

The interior doesn’t look bad either, aside from the old toolbox stored inside. It looks like it’s a blue interior, which I personally find more attractive than the usual black (or my eyes could be deceiving me). Still, the originality continues throughout and it’s oh-so-nice to see three pedals on the floor. The carpet just looks like it needs a clean and the seats appear largely intact.

Here it is after a wash – wow! It shines up nice, but it will be great to see it back on the original wheels and hubcaps. The body looks impressively solid and I don’t see too much to complain about on the outside. If it runs out as good as it looks, this seems like an awfully fair deal at $6K. Does anyone else agree? Or do you think this car needs more work than the photos let on?

    Interior looks black to me. I’d want to do a coupe to fastback conversion on this one!

      Can you even do a fastback conversion? Never heard of one being done before. I’d keep it stock personally

        Yes, I believe there is a company in California that specializes in converting these over. While nothing that involved is easy, having such a popular car with all of the components available from the aftermarket, makes worth doing for some people who want a fastback without paying for original fastback money.

    Just though you might like to see a complete restoration of something truly complex. It won best restoration at Oshkosh in 2015. Look at the detail and enjoy

    I had a boss who said if you wanthink a v8 buy one that way same with any option or Color. So along that line, if you want a fastback buy one. If you want a coupe then you could buy this one.

    This is a good deal IMO. If it wasn’t on the wrong coast, I’d be after it.
    Only things I don’t like, aside from being a 67 and not a 68, is the right quarter panel has been resprayed. Accident damage? Rust? Vandalism? Would need an in person inspection and check the pans, trunk floors, wheel houses.
    Also needs new rear leafs most likely. Those shackles are a give away.
    C-code was the motor I cut my teeth on, and I’ll sing it’s praises all day long, especially with a three pedal behind it.

    Looks nice for the money but after owning 4 classic Mustangs looks are deceiving so a PI is definitely warranted. They don’t call them rustangs for no reason.

    ya a PI is great, but its to bad that the internet teases us with anything you would ever want,and pay top dollar for it without seeing it in person. Its not easy to I have bought a few sight unseen and when they showup there is always something if not the whole thing not expected .So this stang looks good, I hope its as good to the new owner as it looks in the pics Hope It stays a coupe and not cutup to make a fastback. Cars are only orig. once and even though this one is a coupe,great one to leave as-is and original.
    If you cut up a good orig. one its another one gone.
    I,Me looking at the 68 Camaro project that was on barnfinds last week, and its still for sale for around 12k. that’s a great price for what it seems , wish I could go see it in person.

    The body looks good in the pictures. Might be a little rust under the rocker panel trim, but you really can’t tell. A big problem I see is that hole cut into the left shock tower. I’ve seen it done to access the grease zerks. I had the suspension almost fall out of a 67 that had this done. Those panels are available so it can be replaced.

    Doesn’t say anything about if it runs and drives which makes a huge difference in the value.

    Toploader?!?!? Why wouldn’t you put a T-5 behind that 2 barrel? Lighter trans and overdrive to boot!

    I’m guessing the car needs more than you would think but is a good starting point. You could easily sink $1000-$1500 just to get the suspension and fuel system in working order. I think $4000-$4500 would be a good buy assuming the floorboards are solid and that it runs and drives.

    The ad says it runs, so I think the price is right. Wish I had the cash laying around. I would buy it in a heartbeat. I bet it sells fast.
