This frame off, rotisserie restored 1973 Pontiac Trans Am is located in Cypress, Texas near Houston. The car is painted in 1970-1972 Trans Am livery and is modified with aftermarket 18″ billet wheels, Vintage Air AC and a modern drivetrain. The car is listed here on eBay for a Buy It Now Price of $79,000 or the seller has included an option to make an offer. There are 13 days remaining in the auction.
The powerplant has been replaced with an all aluminum TRE 632 Big Block V8 with forged internals that is said to generate 900 horsepower. The car is being sold by a private seller and is advertised as a Pro Touring vehicle. The 9.5 to 1 compression engine is backed by a 4 speed automatic transmission that has been modified to handle the additional power generated by the engine. The rear end is a 9 inch 35 spline unit with 3.73 gears and the rear suspension is a 4 link with coil over adjustable shocks. Exhaust from the engine flows through custom long tube headers and 3 inch exhaust pipes. Other impressive upgrades include the installation of a Hydroboost braking system, a 4 row aluminum radiator and a Milodon 7 quart oil pan.
The interior retains much of its stock look but is immaculate and looks new. An aftermarket shifter is mounted in the console and the seller states that most of the interior is new. Other improvements include new glass, Dynamat insulation, digital Dakota Gauges and an aftermarket steering wheel. The hood scoop was made functional and an aftermarket stereo system, amplifier and Pioneer speakers have been installed.
For the purist, this might be a hard sell because only the body is unmodified. The paint, wheels and drivetrain are not stock. However, for a performance oriented driver, I don’t think you could build this car for what the seller is asking. All the modifications might overshadow the amazing body work and paint. I bet people would pay money just to drive this beast or run a quarter mile!
“Pro touring vehicle”? – I guess you’d be a pro at driving this
from one gas station to another.
Yeah and boats get bad gas mileage too. I had a guy say my 2009 Orange Viper probably used a lot of gas. I said in 6th gear driven politely it actually does. But I don’t drive it that way. Another notable meeting. Putting a couple hundred dollars in the tank of my Donzi boat. Guy in a little Honda says I can’t believe you are spending that much money today, I’m dtiving around for nothing all week I said I can’t believe you are driving that ugly little car around town. Haaaa. I’m over 70s muscle but I respect it for what it is. If you can’t afford it or are afraid to spend it, why are you here?
If your going to completely restore it, I think worth more back to complete stock car.
What would this world be without passion builds like this?? A whole freezer aisle of vanilla ice cream and TV dinners with Salisbury steak and mashed potatoes.
That car is exciting and over the top, but very clean and tasteful. I love it.
Nobody cares about “numbers matching” cars any more, except for a very few, highly sought after cars. The “stupid money” is being spent on resto-mods, like this.
haters gonna hate, this thing is awesome
900+ HP, naturally aspirated? That’s a lot of cubic inches. Not sure how practical this would be, but fun?!?! I’m going with hell yes.
Where’s a video, with sound, of course.
C Mark I am not sure I understand your post. Do you mean take this car apart and put it back to the original ? Or do you mean ,a restored car would be worth more than this one? I can’t imagine anyone thinking it would make sense to take this car apart and take it back to a perfect original restoration. There may be a car out there that you could support that decision, but I can’t think of it. I guess maybe it has happened by accident or incompetence. The owner of the car builds ,it one way, say Resto-Mod and then decides he wants it Restored, so he tears it apart all and re-does it. I just don’t know in what world that would make sense!
I just think it was a waste, I think car would be more valuable in stock form, if you are going to go all out, bring it back to what it was , any car, who needs all this HP? , nicer to me all original parts and rims , would be a better car to drive and will appreciate in value. Thus is a great job, but overkill.
Big cubes, 9.5 comp. 4 speed auto, This car rocks, I’d spend all summer cruising around and
Enjoying every moment. Love the stance, wheels.
900 hp? For what? For the average Joe, 450hp would be faster in the 1/4 than 900hp in this ‘chassis’. If you want a big number fine, but this kind of hp is not ‘fun’. It’s serious and it can bite you hard; probably why the seller is parting with it.
So your experience with high horsepower cars might be different than mine, or others that have enjoyed with respect. And your psychic powers, WOW. Maybe 900 horsepower was not too much. Maybe he’s selling it to fund a funny car?? You are welcome.
Chevy on the Brain :( Make mine with a Butler Pontiac V8 – One 70 T/A Clone actually made 850 pump gas HP and only 541 ci. Keep them Pontiac powered :)
Dude! We’re on the same page! This is one of my favorite race cars.

Yes > Roger Bolliger’s 71 T/A 496 ci. Butler Pontiac V8 – Has Beaten some very Fast Cars – Twin Turbo 935 Porsche – AC Cobra etc. Don’t need no Chevy power :)
i am a huge pontiac t/a fan……i love this.
while not for everyone it def pushes my buttons…..the paint etc is flawless.
sure a bone stock 455/4speed would suit me just fine, I cant fault the build, but these cars with automatics just are not for me, well at this level none of them are for me.
I agree Roman, There’s enough vanilla ice cream out there.
It’s a beautiful build, and Pro-Touring is a big thing. Take in a Good-Guys ,
or NSRA show sometime. There’s room in the hobby for Rat rods, all the way to this gorgeous Trans Am. Nicely done. My 2 cents
Interesting car. Looks to be well executed. I like it. Having said that, it’s a total ego build. Apparently when finished the owner realized that it was way too over the top to enjoy.
