Time Capsule: 85k Mile 1985 Dodge 4×4 Pickup

Built with the reliable 318 cubic inch V8 engine, this clean little black truck is for sale here on eBay and spent most of its life in Colorado. It is a 1985 Dodge W150 Power Ram. The truck has a Buy It Now price of $9,900 and is bid to $5,600 with only 2 days remaining. The reserve has not been met so take a closer look at this one.

For 1985, the 318 cubic inch V8 engine delivered 140 horsepower and 240 foot lbs of torque. Equipped with an automatic transmission that is shifted from the column, this would be a fun truck for driving around town. The engine compartment has been cleaned up and looks very nice. The seller states that the truck has 85,000 miles and there is not one crack int he dash or dent in the bed. The seat does have some rips or tears but the tan interior looks very nice and original.

There are a number of good pictures in the ad. I like that this truck has gauges for the coolant temperature, oil pressure and battery instead of idiot lights. The black exterior paint has some minor dents and the hood is fading but the owner believes it to be the factory paint. Four wheel drive trucks are popular and, assuming it works well, this truck has all the options that are bringing more money in today’s market.

This truck falls in the middle of the long first generation series which was produced from 1981-1993. I prefer the short wheel base with the 6.5 foot bed and the turbine wheels. I might talk myself into bidding on this one! Who has owned a first generation Dodge D150 or W150 and can tell us about their experience?

I have one of those hood ornaments on a shelf, came off an 85 Ramcharger, It’s got red lenses for eyes. I’ve always wondered,if they had a light in them.
    Anyone know?

The one with red eyes came from JC Whitney. No idea if they lit up or not

I had an 86 with this same set up. Used it to tow a 30ft. Camper trailer all over the NE from Maine to Virginia. It wasn’t fast, but did its job for almost 300k with no major problems. I traded it for a 99 and upgraded to the 360i magnum. That too went close to 300k but with less effort. I loved both of them.

Don’t have a D/W150. Mine is a ’93 D350 dually with the 5.9 Cummins. Absolutely love my truck except for the seemingly ever common roof rot along the drip channel. The engineer that designed that particular area must be cursed by thousands.

Had an 86 Ramcharger that I bought new.
It was a two tone blue Royal SE 4×4 with the 360. The only thing I disliked about it was the crappy carburetor (Rochester I believe). Didn’t matter what time of year it was as it always liked to die out on cold starts. Usually took a second start and some pumping of the gas pedal to keep it running. Took it to the dealer a few times when it was under warranty but it never solved the problem permanently. It would be fine in the beginning and eventually act up again. Still miss that truck though. Out of all the vehicles I have owned it would be my first choice if I could have one back.
