Volvo may be well known for their wagons today, but that wasn’t always the case. In the forties they focused on passenger cars and in 1949 they released a chassis with partial bodywork to appease the coachbuilders. It was used to build ambulances, trucks, and wagons… Volvo took notice of the success these companies were having with their practical haulers and decided to build their own. The Duett was born, so named for its dual functionality of work and play. This 1964 Volvo Duett 210 is far from being ready for work or play, but after sourcing a 544 parts car, there could still be some hope. Find it here on craigslist for $900. Screams for a engine swap! 240 turbo, PRV V6, maybe even a Ford Zetec…..Add some seats, clean it up and you have a wonderful Volvo rat rod.
Local Volvo dealer has a resto rod 544 with a small block Chevy driver and a one of these, properly restored on the showroom floor.

The perfect color. Geeez…….haven’t seen one for years. These indeed are a handsome ride and darn handy as a grocery getter. I think a proper update with Volvo running gear would be nice.

Beyond it’s quaint a quirky looks this vehicle would be good street rod material because it has a ladder frame which would be better if one opted for a late model drive train.
