This car may look familiar if you watch the TV show Fast N’ Loud. It was part of a triple barn find that was featured a while back. Richard Rawlings worked a deal and got them cheap, but our buddies over at Restore a Muscle Car are the ones who found the cars and apparently ended up with them. I don’t know how things work in show biz, but I do know that this Challenger, and the other two Challengers we will be listing shortly, are awesome! This is a Barn Finds exclusive auction so please keep reading and place your bids below.
This Challenger had been parked since the ’90s when the sellers found it. You can watch the episode above to get a better idea of how the car looked when they pulled it out. We will be running a full story about the discovery later on, but this gives you a better idea of the backstory here.
Wow, it sure cleaned up well! The seller mentioned that it does look a little better in photos than in real life. Normally, I dislike any car that’s yellow or purple, but this Challenger is a major exception. It looks so cool in Plum Crazy with eh black R/T stripes and silver rims. It has been resprayed once and isn’t perfect. It looks driver quality in the photos though and wouldn’t be anything to be ashamed of. Personally, I’d rather have it be a little scruffy so there wouldn’t be any excuse to not drive it.
And here’s a good reason to drive it! That firebreathing 383 was good for 300 HP when new, but it sounds like this one may have been warmed over a bit?
The interior cleaned up pretty well too! The black and woodgrain are a great combo. The automatic transmission may be a little bit of a let down for some, but then again, there’s a lot of power to keep track of. This car was optioned out as more of a comfortable high-speed cruiser anyway. There’s power steering, power brakes, power windows, and air conditioning! There’s still a tach and slap-shift for times when you really want to get on it though.
We have featured many rusty Challenger projects over the years and although it’s great to know that people are working hard to save these cars, this is the one you’d want if you are more interested in driving than restoring. A lot of the hard work has already been done to make it roadworthy so it should be a fun one to have in the garage. Be sure to check out the extensive photo gallery here and leave any questions you may have in the comments below.

Auction your car here on Barn Finds for only $99!
That’s a nice car folks.
I like it.
When you look at the original series of cars you can see why FCA chose this style. Sales figures have Challengers outselling Camaros and Mustangs. As much as I’d love to have one, I just don’t have the room for it.
I had a red ’71, but just a 318. Mine was just an OK car in the ’70s.
@Charles Flowers – This isn’t a public forum Charles. You broke the rules (no personal attacks) so we deleted your comments.
Owned a 1970 and 1971….had good offers for both I thought before they hit in the 90’s…..
The 70 was an R/T 383 (and my 5th grade girlfriend in 1968) mom’s car until the late 70’s when I was able to acquire it with the low mileage and lack of abuse.
Still see her at the reunion’s…..
Early 70s Challengers were very good looking cars, but like a lot of iron from back then, they were stuffed with interiors that were very cheap-looking and “plasticy”. For the money, I would rather have a new Challenger with any V8 than these originals that have been restored. The new ones are better in every way.
Terry, if you feel that way, why are you trolling a site called “Barn Finds”? I hope you enjoy your depreciation.
I have a Go-Mango 2016 Challenger Hellcat . I would be proud to park this cheap looking plastic car next to my Fiat . I have a Scat-Pac Dragway electric drag race set I got @ 9 years old (1970) that had to be bought through the Dodge dealers parts department . Two 1/32 scale 70 Hemi Challengers (one Go-Mango and one Plum Crazy Purple) race down the “strip” when the tree goes green . You shift gears 4 times and the winner gets the checkered flag , then you reverse back to the starting line . Am I a die hard Mopar fan ? No , but that race set made me so happy that even though I’m a GM guy I have always loved the early Challengers . That Challenger would make a great addition to my garage . Let’s compare any new “retro designed car” to it’s predecessor and there is no comparison that would be be fair .
This car looks great, a new R/T is 35k plus for a car with no style.
I would take this in a minute, leave the paint and tidy up the engine and suspension some and have a lot of fun/
These early Dodge Challengers are the only Mopar cars I ever liked. Unlike the author purple and yellow are my favorite colors for these cars. Would almost allow this car in my driveway.
God bless America
727 or 904 transmission? It makes a big difference in these cars.
God bless America
With less than 24 hours to go the seller has lowered their reserve so be sure to place your bids before time runs out!
Bidding ends in one hour! Will it go any higher?
BF AUCTION: 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T 383.
When is the final date for the auction??
How one will be notice of the bits if he win ??
Back in the ’70s I bought a used ’70 R/T convertible, 383 with a 727 shifted on the column, and IIRC, a bench seat, red with a black top. When I bought it, I had no idea that it had been used in The Mod Squad television show, and I didn’t find out until Glen Campbell told me in a parking lot. Apparently, the interior was modified so that Pete, Julie and Linc could all sit in front. I love LA.

Jesse,
Is this car still available? I see a price and “make an offer”, so let me know!
