Abarth Replica: 1978 Fiat 600

1978 Fiat Abarth 850 TC replica

This may not be a barn find, but I think it’s seriously cool. Lately, I’ve been thinking that it would be nice to have a dedicated race car that I could use for the local hill climbs and autocross events. You know, something cheap and fun. The Spitfire we scored the other day might work for that, but I’m starting to think something that is ready to go like this might be a better option. A ton of work has already been done and although it’s not a real Abarth, I would feel more comfortable racing something a little less valuable like this anyway. The auction ends on Monday and bidding is just over $2k here on eBay so it might even end up being a bargain! The only problem – it’s located in Sofia, Bulgaria…

I don’t care if it is a replica it is a beautiful build.Front needs lowered a little though.Wish it were a little closer to the the USA.

A friend of mine that runs a machine shop here in SoCal races a couple of these and does very well. He mostly does autocross and has been doing it for years. His name is John Edwards and his shop is R&D Machine in Costa Mesa. Look him up, he’s a great guy and very knowledgeable. He also has a bunch of Youtube videos.

after you pay, someone to do the inspection, to ship it to the USA, to get it thru customs, to ship to your location you would have way to much money in this. the rollcage looks like it would need to be updated also. interesting find.

around 3000 USD is Shipping with all duties payed, and roll cage is for road use for racing will need front part to be made as addition :)

I don’t think the carb and manifolds are quite right, but if this replica runs anything like a real 850 TC it should be a hoot to drive. On a short road course this car would keep up with bigger cars that have a lot more power. They truly have a sting in their tail. With a decent race engine build and sticky tires this car should be strong on the street, although you would need to wind that little engine up to get the performance, which would likely attract the wrong kind of attention.

Bonhams sold a similar car that seems like a replica for $65K [https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/21907/lot/211/].

With a hot engine and 2 sets of wheels, one of which being Cromodoras, this car is worth a lot more than the current $2300 bid. I hope it sells to someone who appreciates these great little race cars.

Bought a Fiat-Abarth 1000 Berlina Corsa, New Factory car in 1967.
This is a photo of it in the Pre-Grid at Road America just before winning the June Sprints in 1968. I have a DVD of the race if you would like to see it.

Never raced at Summit Point, that probably was the infamous Al Cosentino.
Raced at, Road America, Milwaukee Mile, Blackhawk Farms, Riverside, Brainerd, Montgomery Ala (street race), Lake Garnet, Gratton, MIS, Mid-Ohio, Wilmot Hills, and???.
