Affordable Survivor: 1950 Pontiac Silver Streak

50 pontiac 1

Affordable survivors are something we get excited about here at Barn Finds. This 1950 Pontiac Silver Streak sedan is in very nice shape and has been hibernating in a barn since 1981. With it being recently resurrected, this Pontiac is ready to be looked over and driven again. This running and driving Pontiac is priced at $5,900. Find it here on craigslist out of St. Augustine, Florida.

The inline 8 looks very original and simple. The engine and bay have some surface rust, but nothing that looks to extreme, or cancerous. The straight 8 is listed as running, and recently receiving a tune up and a fresh battery. The exterior of this Pontiac looks great. The chrome is peeling on the bumpers, which is a bit of a letdown, but the rest of the chrome and body look remarkably clean and straight. The paint looks either original, or to be a very old repaint. But we are thinking it is original, as this is a very nice condition car.

Looking inside of this Pontiac shows a clean and well maintained interior, much like a time capsule. The seats look nice other than some possible mild fading, and some staining. The dash board, and door panels look excellent. It looks like all this Pontiac needs is to be driven and looked over every now and again.

This Pontiac is a great opportunity for someone who is looking for a clean affordable survivor. Although this Pontiac is a sedan, it still has very nice lines, and certainly has a great curb appeal. Would you buy this Pontiac? What would you do with Silver Streak sedan?

I’m not a fan of the bills associated with chrome plating. However, some fresh bumpers–at least driver-quality, would the appearance of this one a world of good.

I’d pull the bumpers off and paint them a dark metallic silver base coat clear coat with lots of clear to make it shine. Which is exactly what I’m going to do with my 51 dodge Mayfair hard top

Not a fan of that method, I’d rather see them left rusted, or find a better driver quality pair elsewhere on Craigslist. To each their own, though – enjoy your project!
