All Silver 10th Anniversary: 1979 Pontiac Trans Am

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Pontiac celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Trans Am in 1979 with a special edition of its popular muscle car. In 1979, production reached 117,108, and Pontiac built 7,500 10th Anniversary Edition Trans Ams that featured unique two-tone paint and a special hood decal. This car is located in Pompano Beach, Florida and is said to have been sitting a long time before being acquired from an estate. This 10th Anniversary Trans Am is listed here on eBay with 6 days remaining in the auction. It is currently bid to $14,650 and listed at no reserve.

As stated, Pontiac made 7,500 Tenth Anniversary Edition Trans Ams in 1979. Of these, 1,817 were equipped with the W72 Pontiac 400 engine and 4-speed manual transmission, and 5,683 with the L80 Oldsmobile 403 cubic inch V8 and automatic transmission. This car is equipped with the L80 V8, that had 185 horsepower and 315 lb-ft of torque. The high-performance W72 Pontiac 400 cubic inch V8, paired with a Borg Warner T-10 4-speed manual transmission, featured 3.23 rear gears, WS6 suspension, and dual turbo mufflers, producing 220 horsepower and a quarter-mile time in the high 14-second range. The 301 V8 was also an option for the 1979 Trans Am, but not for the Tenth Anniversary model.

The odometer reading shows 36k miles, but the interior looks like it has more wear than that. The steering wheel is worn and the special silver seats look to have been recovered. The factory interior for the 10th Anniversary Edition featured silver leather upholstery. Every Tenth Anniversary Edition Trans Am came with T-Tops, WS6 suspension, power antenna, tilt steering, ETR radio, and various power accessories. This car has a new starter and recently received a tune-up. The seller suggests going through the entire car before driving it.

A notable feature of the Tenth Anniversary Trans Am is the introduction of red backlit dash gauges, which complemented the digital red ETR AM/FM 8-track stereo system. Additionally, all 10th Anniversary Edition Trans Ams were equipped with power antennas and a space-saver tire in the trunk. The oversized hood bird was special, too, and unique to the 10th Anniversary Edition. If you could get this car for the right price, it would look like a fun car.

“Sat for most of it’s life in a garage” and the steering wheel looks like that? ANd wires hanging from the dash? Something else going on here… everything in the interior looks like it’s been spray-painted.

I agree. VERY grimy interior – just look at the pictures in zoom mode. Even the chrome parts are shabby. Dealer that is selling it cold have spent a day or so and made it look better. And, false mileage claims should leave a bad taste in anyone’s mouth.

Lost me at “Olds 403 V8″…what an embarrassment to the Pontiac name.

I had a Buddy whom had one in college and always jelly as it was a new graduation gift..

Me with my paid by me 1969 Z28 beater primered with a built up engine that I raced hard thru HS… 😜

The TA space looking seats always cracked me up.

This definitely warrants in person inspection ..

It’s obviously been hit down the left side and the bodywork on the left side quarter at the dogleg is horrible. Paint is shiny but the wrong color silver and the wheels are polished to death. I’d have to see proof it’s an Anniversary car as if it isn’t rotted it’s worth saving but it’ll take some work to make it nice.

Sadly, these were the best all around American car at the time performance wise. Disagree with me if you want, but in my opinion it handled better than a C3 Corvette and could be ordered with a more powerful drivetrain

An X in the VIN number indicates a real 10th Anniversary T/A

There is something off about this interior . it looks like some armature took it apart then put back together. The steering wheel looks as if it has been baked in the sun or there is alot more miles on this than reported. I would put eyes on it before putting money down.

Too much for a car that just feels “off”.

But, the new owner may not car about the stuff that we notice here on BF.
