Any Lives Left: 1968 Mercury Cougar

left

This Cougar listed on craigslist in Sacramento looks promising. It’s the base model with the 210 horsepower 302 V8 with a three speed manual. If it’s as described, the $6,500 asking price seems reasonable. It’s completely original and looks to be complete. It’s said to run and drive well and has very little rust. The owner received it from a family member and drove it back to Sacramento from Reno with no issues, so it sounds well sorted! There’s no word on how long it was in storage. This Cougar is local, so if you’d like me to take a look, please let me know. So do you see this cat living a better life in the near future or has it already spent all nine lives?

Why don’t I have any family members that are giving away a 60’s classic? Looks like a very nice Cat, lots of years left in that beauty!

And why are these listings never anywhere near me?

Nice car. I wonder if the head light doors open ( or close, for that matter, as I remember many of these with pieces of wood holding the head light doors open) and the sequential turn signals work. 2 rough spots on Cougars. Always liked the Cougar more than the Mustang. Can’t go wrong here.

Wonder what shape the seats are like under those ill-fitting covers?

Looks like it has a lot life left. I wish it was about 3000 miles closer to my house.

Is it my imagination, or does the ’68 cougar share a lot of parts with the mustang of the same year?

Thinking seriously about going and looking at this tomorrow. I have no idea where they are price wise, but I have liked these better than the mustangs…. and I own one!

Nice! Thanks for sharing, looks like that cat is ready for more rolling, too bad it’s not closer. My high school car was a ’67 XR7, way cooler than the “every mans’ Stang”. Great thing is they share a lot with Mustangs so there are a ton of parts, body and interior trim become tricky though to find parts for. Finding one with this stout a body is a treat. Had I the time (and garage space), I’d be all over this one for $5,500… Kid around here what’s half that for a car with nearly every piece of sheet metal needing replacement – he’s going to have it for a while…

That is a bargain for an early generation Cougar. Even though it does not have the XR-7 option, it’s very rare with the 3-speed manual transmission. If it were anywhere close to my backyard, it would be in my garage. Hopefully, it ended up in Fogline’s or another member’s garage on Barn Finds.
